San Jose, CA, and Geneva, October 26, 2011 – As Chief Executive Officer of NeuroSky, Inc., Stanley Yang is the visionary behind the bio-sensor company that has quickly become the global leader in mass market Brain-Computer Interface technology. He will be participating on a panel at the ITU Telecom World 2011 on Thursday, 27th October on “Storytelling #3: Start Up Shout Out” on how technology (disruptive future gazing applications and simple, pervasive technologies used in innovative ways) could make the world wealthier, smarter, safer and more secure. ITU Telecom World 2011 brings Heads of State, Government & International organizations together with company CEOs, Mayors of top cities, thought leaders, innovators, researchers and more. It provides a platform to network, share knowledge, seek solutions to global challenges and design a Manifesto for a connected world on how connected technologies can make global citizens happier, healthier, safer and smarter.

NeuroSky has developed a revolutionary non-invasive neural communication sensor that converts brainwaves and other bio-signals into digital electronic signals. This “ThinkGear” technology can control electronic devices, enable machines to adapt to people, and further enhance education and research on creative applications powered by the brain. NeuroSky has forged successful partnerships with a broad range of companies from Fortune 500 industry leaders to innovative independent developers.

So far, NeuroSky is best known for their technology in Mattel’s MindFlex and Uncle Milton’s Star Wars Force Trainer, two of the most popular Christmas toys in the United States last year. Within the past year, they have also released the low cost MindWave headset in the US and EU.

The lightweight, easy to use MindWave headset includes a bundle of 12 custom games. It is available on PC and MAC at a reasonable retail price of 99 Euros at NeuroSky.com. Additional games and applications can be downloaded from NeuroSky.com.  The MindWave includes NeuroSky’s ThinkGear technology, which uses EEG (Electroencephalography) from a single sensor to record brainwaves and outputs the data as proprietary algorithms (for focus and relaxation), power spectrum bands using FFT distribution (alpha, beta, theta, delta and gamma) and the raw brainwave (including muscle movement such as blinks). NeuroSky’s remarkable ThinkGear technology is available in a wide variety of form factors and sensor configurations to meet the needs of a number of applications.

ThinkGear was the basis for both the NeuroSky MindSet Multimedia Headset and the hugely popular Mattel Mindflex toy. NeuroSky works with over 150 universities worldwide in many disciplines, including cognitive psychology, engineering, health, computer science, game development, cognitive research, etc. In addition to the ThinkGear technology being used in consumer products, this technology can also help to feasibly extend research budgets and provide flexibility in data collection.

“Our technology has captured people’s imagination simply because it’s fun. We want to take that one step further and develop products that change people’s lives – but are still fun.” states Mr. Yang.
Neurosky is Mr. Yang’s second successful Silicon Valley start-up. In 1997, Mr. Yang co-founded and served as President & CEO of Triscend Corporation, a configurable system-on-chip IC company.  Triscend was acquired by Xilinx (XLNX) in March of 2004. Prior to Triscend, Mr. Yang spent 11-years working at Xilinx in engineering and management positions. Mr. Yang’s expertise in founding and growing companies in Silicon Valley comes from his passion for technology’s ability to revolutionize industries and ultimately change people’s lives. Born in Taiwan and raised in the United States, Mr. Yang is adept in bridging the East and West. Stanley Yang received a BSEE from the University of California, Berkeley.
