Nimble on stagnating UK workers’ productivity and role of gov. digital investment in stimulating growth
Rich Fenton, Systems Engineers Manager UK&I, Nimble Storage:“With UK productivity stuck below pre-crisis levels, many businesses will be looking to the governments new digital initiatives to help address the country’s low labour productivity and make the country more attractive for investment. Part of both the Industrial Strategy and Autumn Statement, the government pointed to significant investments in national digital infrastructure, including full fibre and 5G, to help stimulate growth.
“But beyond grand investments national digital infrastructure, true change will only be achieved if businesses are able to drive greater efficiencies by taking a smarter approach to increasing productivity in their own firm. For those companies that increasingly rely on digital technologies, it is important that they look into their own infrastructure – whether on premise or in the cloud – to reduce the time currently wasted by employees on software delays. With the typical employee experiencing an average of four software-caused delays per work day, and each of these lasting about seven seconds, the cost of this time to the British economy amounts to £744,235,520 every year. By taking simple steps to reduce the app-data gap in their own infrastructure, businesses can make a concerted effort to improve productivity in their company and the wider economy.”

India talent pool can help drive China’s growth – Global Times
There is no doubt that China has made remarkable progress in becoming an innovation-driven economy. The Global Innovation Index 2016 ranked China 25th in the world and first among upper-middle income economies. In this respect, China is once again a role model for emerging economies on how to effectively formulate policies and allocate resources to achieve national goals. As Chinese companies strive to climb higher up the innovation ladder, they should think about engaging more deeply with India in order to leverage its huge talent pool, as their Western counterparts have done for a long time.
Many Chinese companies have already done very well in exploiting market opportunities in India. Lenovo is competing head-to-head with HP and Dell for market leadership in the Indian PC and laptop markets. Chinese smartphone brands – Xiaomi, Lenovo, Oppo, Huawei, Vivo, Gionee and others – account for approximately 50 percent of the Indian market. And equipment suppliers such as Huawei, Shanghai Electric and Harbin Electric have had a strong presence in India for many years. Recently, Alibaba, Tencent, Fosun and many others have made significant investments in India. However, Chinese companies have not yet exploited India’s most valuable resource – its abundant supply of qualified and cheap human capital.
