Rajesh Chharia is the President of the Internet Service Providers Association of India. He is the founder of M/s CJ Online Pvt. Ltd, the first operational private ISP with a fully digital platform in Ghaziabad; it caters to large educational institutions, corporations, software developers, call centres and business process outsourcers. Mr Chharia began his career in his family’s business which manufactures packaging materials where he served many years as CEO.
Mr Chharia is a Member of the Regional Advisory Committee of Central Excise & Service Tax under India’s Ministry of Finance. He has also played a major role in the creation of the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) and is presently one of its directors. Mr Chharia is also a founder of Renovau Telecom, which develops and deploys carrier grade multi-play switching systems.
Rajesh Chharia is a Postgraduate in Commerce having completed a Bachelor’s degree at Delhi University and his Masters Degree at Meerut University in Commerce with Honours.

Global carriers face similar pressures, but are generally better equipped to weather the storm. In the ‘knowledge society’ or ‘information economy’, knowledge, not machines and equipment, is both commodity and capital. Many studies have shown a direct correlation between broadband and economic growth. Yet India has less than 400 thousand broadband connections. To span India, to bring broadband to a billion people, wireless networks are needed; fixed networks are too costly and impractical. |

| India’s economy is world famous for its spectacular growth in the last decade driven largely by call centres and business process outsourcing (BPO). In recent years KPO, knowledge process outsourcing, higher value, highly skilled technical services including R&D has increasingly shifted to India. India’s skilled manpower, entrepreneurship and government policies that combined regulatory laissez faire with financial stimulus all worked together to fuel this exceptional Indian phenomenon. Some 55 per cent of India’s GDP is now derived from the services sector. |
