Zon chooses Appear TV Scrambling and
Multiplexing for Satellite Infrastructure
Oslo, Norway – 30 September, 2013
Appear TV, a leading global provider of next-generation head-ends for broadcast and IP television, today announced that its scrambling and multiplexer solutions have been deployed at ZON Multimedia, Portugal’s leading pay-TV operator and content provider.
The installation, which is scheduled to go live in late 2013, is being managed by Satcab, the Appear TV Portuguese business partner.
“The flexibility and high-density of the Appear TV scrambling solution made it an ideal choice as the scrambling solution for our upgraded satellite broadcast infrastructure,” says José Pascoal, planning and engineer director, ZON. “We already use Appear TV head-ends for our RF network, so we understand the advantages of the company’s modular design philosophy. We look forward to Appear TV’s scrambling and multiplexing solutions playing an important part in our state-of-the-art infrastructure upgrade.”
The project is fully redundant (1+1) and has been fulfilled through populating Appear TV chassis’ with Appear TV designed and manufactured high-density scrambling and multiplexing modules. The chassis’ are situated at the ZON main head-end. Four statistical multiplexers input to the scrambling modules that encrypt the ZON satellite TV offering secured with Nagra Aladin Conditional Access after which the multiplexers process PSI/SI and re-multiplex the Transport Stream.
“Our flexible head-end architecture meant that we could easily meet ZON’s specific requirements for a bespoke scrambling and multiplexing solution,” said Carl Walter Holst, CEO, Appear TV. “I’m delighted that we are able to extend our relationship with ZON and look forward to the Appear TV solutions going live for this mission critical task delivered by our highly professional, long term business partner Satcab.”
The Appear TV scrambling module is compatible with major CA systems and supports both AES and DVB CSA scrambling algorithms. The module can be supplied with customer specified inputs and outputs, making it one of the most powerful scrambling solutions on the market. It can be integrated with any CA system supporting simulcrypt interface and supports scrambling of all common video encoded formats including MPEG-2 and H.264 in both SD and HD resolutions. The scrambler has a dedicated Ethernet interface towards the CA server, is fully DVB Simulcrypt compliant and enables scrambling of up to 850 Mbit/s and 250 services per chassis. The scrambler can be combined with any of the available input, descrambling or output modules, enabling operators to manage services from reception to streaming from one chassis with a single user interface.
