Monday, 2 July Faster satellite broadband speeds hit UK consumer market Pan European satellite broadband provider, ToowayDirect, part of Satellite Solutions Worldwide, Europe’s premier supplier of Satellite Broadband Communications, today announces a major upgrade and extension of its satellite broadband services. Its will now be able to deliver consumer speeds of 18 Mbps download, 6 Mbps upload, up from 10 Mbps and 4 Mbps respectively.

Monday 10 September 225 Million 3GPP Mobile Broadband Connections in Americas 4G Americas reports that HSPA and LTE mobile broadband technologies in North, Central and South America added 65.6 million new connections year-over-year and totaled 225 million connections by the end of June 2012, based on data from Informa Telecoms & Media.
Wednesday 12 September GSA confirms 96 operators launched commercial LTE services in 46 countries, LTE1800 now used in 33% of commercial networks GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association) has published an update to its Evolution to LTE report which confirms 347 telecoms operators in 104 countries are committed to commercial LTE network deployments or are engaged in trials, technology testing or studies. The report covers LTE FDD and LTE TDD technologies.
European Union Project MODE-GAP to Unveil Progress Towards the Next Generation Internet at ECOC MODE-GAP, the European collaborative R&D project which is part of the EU 7th Framework Programme and aims to provide Europe with a lead in the development of the next generation internet infrastructure, is to present its latest results at this month’s ECOC conference and exhibition in Amsterdam.

Friday 14 September 4G Americas Reports 100 Commercial LTE Networks in 49 Countries 4G Americas reports that 100 operators have now launched commercial LTE services in 49 countries, 67 of which were launched in the past 12 months.
ITU acts to cut roaming charges ITU members from the public and private sectors have agreed on measures to reduce ‘bill-shock’ whereby consumers are faced with unexpected and excessive charges for mobile roaming. They have approved a number of measures to empower consumers and encourage operators to lower tariffs. These measures (Recommendation ITU-T D.98) will represent the first truly international agreement taking steps towards lowering roaming costs.
