King Willem-Alexander visits the NTT Amsterdam 1 Data Center

His Majesty participated in roundtable meetings initiated by the Dutch Data Center Association

Amsterdam – 1 November 2019 – Global Data Centers, a division of NTT Ltd., a world-leading global technology services provider, was honored with a visit by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands to the NTT Amsterdam 1 Data Center.

King Willem-Alexander participated in a meeting initiated by the Dutch Data Center Association (DDA) under Managing Director Stijn Grove. Representatives of the association, included members of NTT’s Global Data Centers EMEA team, discussed the requirements and challenges of data hubs with delegates from local communities, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) and the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK). Amsterdam is home to the second largest data center cluster in Europe and is thus of significant economic relevance.

Before taking part in three roundtables on different aspects of the Amsterdam data hub, the King took the opportunity to visit NTT’s state-of-the-art data center campus, also known as AMS1, which officially opened on 11 April 2019. The AMS1 data center campus is planned for up to four data center buildings – with 16,000 sqm in dedicated IT floor area – supporting a total IT load of 40 MW. The first two buildings are already finished, offering high-efficiency, high-resilience data center space for a range of clients including  hyperscalers, governments, financial institutions and multi-national corporations.

Pieter Duijves, Managing Director Netherlands of NTT Global Data Centers EMEA: “We feel honored and privileged that His Majesty visited our data center, and we hope that the King was satisfied exploring NTT AMS1 as part of the Amsterdam Digital Gateway to Europe.”
