of Governors

BELLEVUE, Wash. – 4G Americas, a wireless industry trade association representing the 3GPP family of technologies, today announced the election of Cisco to its Board of Governors. Cisco joins the Board — currently comprised of 18 leading operators and manufacturers — to work together to promote, facilitate and advocate for the deployment and adoption of 3GPP mobile broadband technologies throughout the Americas.

Chris Pearson, President of 4G Americas, welcomed Cisco’s election to the 4G Americas Board and commented, “Cisco is an important contributor to the advancements of the 3GPP technology family and will serve a key role with the other Board member companies of our organization.”

Cisco’s vision is to change the way the world works, lives, plays, and learns and attempts to solve its service provider customers’ most important business challenges by delivering intelligent mobile Internet and technology architectures built on integrated products, services and software platforms. As the mobile Internet of the future evolve to be more “intelligent” and highly integrated into Internet performance and software platforms, the mission of Cisco closely aligns with that of 4G Americas.

“Cisco recognizes the importance of mobile broadband and is a key contributor in the mobile Internet ecosystem,” Pearson added. “4G Americas is honored to have them as part of the Board of Governors.”

The concept of solutions being driven to address specific customer challenges has been at Cisco since its inception in 1984. Cisco’s organic technical capabilities as well as recent acquisitions position Cisco as a leading enabler of the mobile Internet.

“Cisco welcomes the opportunity to play a key role in advancing the efforts of 4G Americas and collaborating with leading operators and vendors,” said Paul Mankiewich, vice president and CTO of the service provider mobility business group for Cisco. “We also look forward to continuing the tremendous progress of high-speed mobile data in the Americas region and around the world.”
