Wokingham, UK, September 8, 2010 – ZyXEL Communications, the world’s leading broadband access solutions provider, announces today that its VES1624 VDSL2 Switch has been named as a finalist for the prestigious IEC InfoVision Award at the Broadband World Forum Europe 2010 (BBWFE) for the Green Broadband Award category. Due to such acclaim, ZyXEL’s efforts towards green technological development are shown to be widely and positively recognized, as represented by this international award.

The BBWFE 2010 will be held in Paris from Oct. 26–28, where ZyXEL’s Booth G1 will showcase a wide range of telecom solutions, which will include end-to-end FTTx solutions and multi-service applications. ZyXEL’s InfoVision Award “finalist product” the VES1624 and a series of other ZyXEL green products will also be presented.

As a green enterprise, ZyXEL presents a complete series of eco-friendly and energy-efficient products, including IP DSLAM and DSL CPE products for  Telco customers. Integrated with robust green features, ZyXEL’s energy-saving products decrease power consumption to help customers reduce their energy costs, while enhancing function and performance. Every ZyXEL energy-saving product complies with global environmental standards, such as EU directives to manufacture environmentally responsible products. In addition, ZyXEL also defines and assigns comprehensive green design guidelines for product development and marketing materials that are used in global promotion activities.

“The recognition of  the InfoVision Award further strengthens our positioning as an innovative service enabler that helps service providers profit from the differentiated and value-added services they provide to their customers.” said Dr. Albert J. Ju, VP of ZyXEL’s Service Provider Business Unit. “By consistently providing environmentally friendly products, ZyXEL always takes the lead in developing innovative new products and features that increase energy efficiency, offer outstanding performance to our customers and meet global environmental standards.”

Just as the energy-saving VDSL2 switch was recognised as an InfoVision Award finalist, the VES1624 has also been acknowledged for not only complying with COC 2009/2010 specifications, but for also going far beyond the usual savings of the COC 2009/2010 average loop distance of mixed deployments.

With inactive link auto-detection and power-saving techniques built-in, the VES1624 powers off unused ports and reserves only minimum power for inactive links. The VES1624 also implements a smart-fan control approach to adjust the speed, according to the specified temperature trigger.

The Broadband InfoVision Award recognises the outstanding technologies developed for broadband services and has long been established as the industry’s leading award event that celebrates excellence within the broadband marketplace. The finalists were selected as the top innovators by a panel of judges, including CTOs from some of the world’s leading broadband operators, which significantly contributes to their prestige and reputation.
