Chris Holden re-elected President of the FTTH Council Europe
At the General Assembly of the FTTH Council Europe on 30—31 March, the members elected a new Board of Directors and the Working Group Committee Chairs, and agreed the work plan for the coming year. The new Board of Directors consists of nine members, with Chris Holden, Corning Ltd, UK, elected as President for the second year running. The other board members are: Karin Ahl, Rala Infratech, Sweden – Treasurer; Eric Festraets, Alcatel-Lucent, Belgium; Pastora Valero, Cisco Systems, Belgium; Rolf Johansson, Ericsson, Sweden; Paul Schwartz, Icotera, Denmark; Sophie Pautonnier, Mitsubishi Electric, France; Jouni Heinonen, Plumettaz, Switzerland; and Albert Grooten, Prysmian Cables and Systems, The Netherlands.

FTTH Council Europe launches new initiatives to promote FTTH
The Board of the FTTH Council Europe has agreed to support two new initiatives over the coming year. The “Why fibre?” initiative will investigate and promote the end-user benefits of FTTH connections, including new content and applications. The “How fibre?” proposal looks at both public and private financing options, and aims to improve understanding of the regulatory and policy frameworks around FTTH.

FTTH Council Europe publishes Annual Report
The Annual Report describes the considerable achievements of the Council over the past 12 months. With more than 150 member companies and a record-breaking attendance at the FTTH Conference 2011 in Milan, the Council has cemented its position as the voice of authority on FTTH technology and business matters. The report is available from the “media centre” section of our website now.

The FTTH Council Europe will have a booth at the ANGA Cable Conference, the leading event for the cable television industry, in Cologne, Germany on 3—5 May.
