Funambol Introduces White-Label Ready MobileMe-like Service for Android
Syncs smartphones and tablets with the cloud, Outlook, social networks and photo sites
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 1, 2011 – Funambol, the mobile cloud company, today launched the mm4android (‘MobileMe for Android’) mobile cloud service for Android phones and tablets. It allows users to sync contacts, calendars, tasks, notes and pictures with diverse devices and systems. It supports any Android device regardless of brand or OS (v2.1+). Users can download the Funambol App from the Android market to access their free online account. Funambol is also offering mm4android as a white-label solution for mobile operators and service providers so they can offer a cross-platform alternative to device maker sync services that only work with their own devices.
mm4android syncs PIM data (e.g. contacts, calendars) with Outlook and photos with cloud services such as Facebook, Flickr and Picasa as well as other mobile phones and computers. It syncs data and content in the cloud with Android and non-Android devices. Its Basic plan provides nominal free storage for the wireless sync needs of many users while it’s Premium and Ultimate plans offer additional storage.

The number of Android phones and tablets is rapidly increasing. A recent Gartner report found that Android has become the number two mobile OS globally, higher than RIM or iPhone iOS. A recent study of U.S. consumers by market research company Market Force found that 34% would be more likely to purchase Android versus 21% preferring iPhone and 12% BlackBerry. At the same time, with the adoption of new devices such as the iPad2, the likelihood of people using devices from more than one brand is increasing (e.g. iPhone and Android tablet, or Android phone and iPad2, or BlackBerry, Symbian, Windows Phone device, etc.), spurring the need for a simple way to keep diverse devices in sync.
