IGEL Supports Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0

IGEL now supports Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0. IGEL customers will now be able to leverage IGEL’s support of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0 to deploy distributed high-performance, scalable and secure Virtual Desktop solutions.

Reading. January 19, 2012 – IGEL Technology, the world’s leading provider of Linux-based thin clients, today announced its support of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0. The powerful remote-display protocol SPICE in Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization has already been available in IGEL thin client hardware and software for some time. Now IGEL will be among the first manufacturer to support Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0 in line with its general availability this week. This means that IGEL Universal Desktop thin clients running IGEL Linux are among the first devices to support Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0, which allows virtualized Windows or Linux desktops to be provisioned in a secure and economical manner and accessed via the high-performance SPICE protocol from different enterprise locations. This leads to manageability benefits for large-scale deployments.

With Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization support, IGEL’s customers can benefit from the scalability and performance of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to deploy large-scale VDI systems with higher densities, simplified management, improved costs and a superior end-user experience.

A short log-on procedure: IGEL appliance mode

Focused on continuously improving its customers’ experience, IGEL has also adapted its own in-house-developed appliance mode for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Desktops. This optional setting speeds up the log-on process and minimizes user interaction by bypassing the local thin client user interface. Only a few seconds after the IGEL thin client has been switched on, the log-on screen for the virtual desktop is displayed. When the appliance mode is disabled, IGEL thin clients also allow parallel access to other centralized IT infrastructures such as IBM mainframes, Windows Remote Desktop Services or other cloud services.

“Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0 brings a new strategic virtualization alternative to enterprises,” said Navin Thadani, senior director, Virtualization Business at Red Hat. “Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0 features an integrated high-performance, scalable and secure VDI solution. IGEL’s rapid implementation and support of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0 allows our joint customers to leverage this integration and improve the manageability, security and policy enforcement of their desktop environments while at the same time providing a great end-user desktop experience.”

“We are pleased to be able to pass the improvements that Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0 offers in centralized provisioning of virtual desktops directly on to our customers,” states Florian Spatz, Product Marketing Manager at IGEL Technology, who also points out that, “this partnership strengthens our market position as the world’s leading vendor of Linux-based thin clients and presents our customers with attractively priced solution options for enterprise-wide provisioning of virtual desktops.”

For the greatest possible security, all IGEL devices also support VPN and smartcard use. All Universal Desktop models can be centrally administered in a convenient, standardized and economical manner using the IGEL Universal Management Suite, which comes standard with the management software included with each unit.
