Escher Group Holdings plc creates new business focused on NFC
22 February 2012: Escher Group Holdings plc (Escher) today announced the formation of a new business (Escher Interactive Services) within the group to focus on Near Field Communications (NFC) and the provision of managed services. Escher was established in 1989 and has customers in 32 countries across the globe and is the largest supplier of transaction processing software to the global postal market. Escher was recently awarded a US$ multi-million contract from one of the world’s largest point of service companies.
Escher has created Escher Interactive Services which will focus on offering managed services, identity management and NFC applications for retailers and mobile network operators. The result will enable a true Social Commerce ecosystem. Escher’s decision to invest in this capability is in direct response to customer demand and world trends for point of service. Recent industry research has indicated that by 2014, one in five smartphones will be NFC-enabled, opening up this convergence between the retail and online world.
Escher Interactive Services will be headed up by Donal McGuinness and will be based at its Dublin offices, operating within its existing Retail Software Division.
The Chief Executive of Escher, Liam Church, commented: ‘we have put together a dedicated team with over 20 years’ industry experience in delivering NFC managed-services. This significant investment is another concrete example of Escher’s commitment to innovation and its desire to continue to dominate the point of service industry.’
