Luxembourg, 16 April 2012

Intelsat S.A., the world’s leading provider of satellite services, today highlighted new agreements with several top media programmers to provide satellite capacity for media distribution on Intelsat’s industry-leading Latin American video neighborhoods on Intelsat 9, Intelsat 805 and Intelsat 11, which offer unparalleled access to the region.

Intelsat is investing in its satellite fleet to provide new and replacement capacity to meet the needs of media customers across the globe. Over the next year, Intelsat will launch four satellites that will expand its global media capacity, particularly in Latin America, a region that is home to several of Intelsat’s premier video neighborhoods.

Discovery Communications, the world’s number one nonfiction media company, recently signed a multi-year agreement to expand its use of capacity serving numerous Latin American countries, including Brazil and Argentina. The agreement will allow Discovery to deliver high definition channels both to cable and Direct-to-Home (DTH) providers in the region. The capacity on Intelsat 9 at 302° East will transition to Intelsat 21 once the satellite enters service later this year.

Media distribution company Overon America has expanded its use of capacity on Intelsat 805 at 304.5° East, which will transition to Intelsat 27 in 2013. The agreement will allow Miami-based Overon America to distribute new high definition video channels to cable and DTH service providers in Latin America.

In addition, Argentinean service provider TIBA, a leader in value-added content management in Latin America, recently signed a multi-year agreement for capacity on Intelsat 11 at 317° East to provide video distribution services to viewers throughout Latin America.

“Intelsat’s media business continues to make great strides in Latin America as we attract new programmers to the region’s top video neighborhoods,” said Carmen Gonzalez-Sanfeliu, Intelsat’s regional vice president for Latin America and the Caribbean. “Our video neighborhoods offer customers unmatched access to all of the key cable distribution points in Latin America, allowing customers to unlock the full potential of their content. Our customers see the tremendous value proposition of expanding their services in the region on our satellite fleet, and they continue to enjoy the benefits that our video neighborhoods provide.”

Also, as previously announced on 1 March, global entertainment company Viacom signed a multi-transponder, long-term renewal for capacity on two of Intelsat’s leading cable programming distribution neighborhoods, Intelsat 9, serving Latin America and bridging to Intelsat 21, which is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2012, and Galaxy 18 at 123° West, serving North America.

HBO Latin America Production Services L.C. expanded its services on Intelsat 9, which was also announced on 1 March. HBO Latin America plans to add more high definition channels to its programming lineup.

Intelsat also announced plans to install a new IntelsatONE Point of Presence (POP) in Miami that will give the Caribbean and Latin American region improved access to Intelsat’s fiber network, satellites and teleports.

The new POP will be installed at a carrier-neutral Network Access Point over the next several months. When complete, it will provide Intelsat customers with an unprecedented level of global access and service quality, enabling access to Intelsat’s other video neighborhoods and the flexibility to scale with their business needs.

“Intelsat continues to make investments in our communications infrastructure, resulting in the most simple, reliable and cost-effective means of content distribution for our customers,” said Gonzalez-Sanfeliu.

Finally, Intelsat is conducting an antenna seeding program in collaboration with a major U.S. programmer to bring its third cable distribution neighborhood, located at 304.5° East, to the same full penetration level across Latin America achieved by Intelsat 9 and Intelsat 11.

Media attending NAB in Las Vegas, NV, are encouraged to visit Intelsat’s booth, located at SU-4919 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
