Alcatel-Lucent’s innovative fixed ultra-broadband G.fast vectoring and VDSL2 vectoring solutions are honored at Broadband Infovision awards
Alcatel-Lucent’s leading ultra-broadband innovations have received two Broadband Infovision Awards. At a ceremony in Amsterdam on 22nd September the company picked up ‘Best Broadband Access Innovation – Fixed’ with its G.fast vectoring solution and ‘Most Innovative Solution Provider’ with VDSL2 vectoring.
The Broadband Infovision Awards highlight a standard of excellence in the industry. Alcatel-Lucent was recognized for solutions that are helping service providers across the globe meet their customers’ growing expectations for high-quality ultra-broadband connectivity to data and video everywhere. The company received the following accolades:
Alcatel-Lucent’s G.fast vectoring solution allows service providers to bring fiber closer to subscribers’ homes to deliver speeds of up to 1 Gbps. Fiber is drawn to a distribution point such as an apartment block’s basement or street – and the existing copper network is used to terminate the connection. Vectoring technology removes the cross-talk interference that occurs when two or more lines are in close proximity, which severely affects speeds. The first trial of this solution was completed with A1 Austria Telkom in July 2013.
The company was awarded ‘Most Innovative Solution Provider’ for its leading efforts in bringing VDSL2 vectoring from innovation to mass deployment. VDSL2 with vectoring has revolutionized broadband access by enabling operators to deploy ultra-broadband services of up to 100 megabits-per-second over existing copper networks. This provides operators with a cost-effective and speedy deployment alternative to fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), allowing them to fulfill ultra-broadband government initiatives and meet growing needs of customers. A driving force behind the technology, in May this year we announced we had shipped over 5 million lines. VDSL2 Vectoring has spurred research into new technologies such as G.fast.
