ENENSYS Supports Thomson Broadcast for the Deployment of DVB-T2 Services in Mali

ENENSYS Technologies, a leading provider of media delivery solutions, announced today that the Malian Transmission and Broadcasting Corporation (SMTD) in West Africa has chosen ENENSYS’ end-to-end SFN DVB-T2 regionalization solution. For this collaborative project, ENENSYS is supporting Thomson Broadcast, who has been working with the Malian government since 2018 on the implementation of a nationwide distribution of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT).

ENENSYS pioneered the delivery of regional DVB-T2 services based on Multiple PLP technology and PLP substitution™; the first system was deployed in 2011 to deliver the Multichoice GoTV service across Sub-Saharan countries. By optimizing the satellite bandwidth required to distribute national and regional services, ENENSYS allows a viable business model for network operators to launch DTT services by drastically reducing the costs of satellite distribution to the towers. Following this initial launch, ENENSYS has implemented this solution for several network broadcast operators across the world. With each deployment, the solution has been revised – keeping it ahead of market changes and client needs – the latest updates now include its innovative PLP aggregation™ technology.

For the SMTD project, ENENSYS is providing a comprehensive DVB-T2 solution. The products used include its dense DVB-T2 gateway – renamed recently SmartGate-T2 – which generates standard T2MI streams carrying national and regional services spread over different PLP to its seamless T2MI switch, IPGuardV2, its dense and modular satellite receiver, SatCaster, the PLP replacer and TxEdge T2, running at the DVB-T2 transmission site prior to transmission. At the transmission site, the TxEdge-T2 inserts DVB-T2 regional/local services by replacing PLP from a national T2-MI stream to a regional T2-MI stream. The national TV channels carried over the main T2-MI stream are transmitted only once to all regions in order to optimize the network distribution bandwidth.

“A project of this magnitude requires a number of experts and reliable partners for a smooth deployment. It was evident for us to team up with ENENSYS in order to secure a fluid transmission system for our client,” shared Amine Oubid, CEO of Thomson Broadcast. “We are very content with the partnership we have formed and hope for many more opportunities moving forward.”

“We are extremely pleased to be working with Thomson Broadcast on this important project for the Malian Public broadcaster,” stated Régis Le Roux, CEO of ENENSYS. “SMTD will benefit from our combined experience in deploying DVB-T2 services, important in ensuring a successful project.”

With broadcast testing currently underway, the first station in Bamako is set to be in service in April 2020.
