Accedo Licenses RDK to ProvideApp Store Integration at The Cable Show

Los Angeles, 28 April, 2014 — Accedo, the global market leader in TV application solutions, today announced an integration of Accedo Application Sphere®, Accedo’s award-winning TV app store management solution, for use on Reference Design Kit (RDK) devices.

Accedo Application Sphere provides a professional, carrier grade platform for managing any application offering on any device, and has been specifically developed to handle the specific requirements for TV devices, including integrated set-top boxes and Smart TVs. The platform offers unparalleled functionality and scalability for pay TV operators and device manufacturers who want to run an extensive application program on their platforms.

The Reference Design Kit (RDK) is a pre-integrated software bundle that provides a common framework for powering customer-premises equipment (CPE) from TV service providers, including set-top boxes, gateways, and converged devices. The RDK was created to accelerate the deployment of next-gen video products and services. It enables TV service providers to standardize certain elements of these devices, but also easily customize the applications and user experiences that ride on top. The RDK is supported by more than 140 licensees, and is administered by the RDK Management LLC, a joint venture between Comcast Cable, Time Warner Cable, and Liberty Global.

The RDK itself is not an application platform.  The RDK provides greater transparency and common access to a device’s core subcomponents. RDK code is located beneath, and independent of, the application framework or UE/UX/UI layer of these devices – such as the Accedo Application Sphere-powered TV app store solution.

Now a member of the RDK community, Accedo has licensed the Reference Design Kit (RDK) from RDK Management LLC in order to bring Accedo’s globally-acknowledged TV application solutions to operators seeking to use the RDK software stack.

“Accedo is excited to join the RDK community with the integration of Accedo Application Sphere,” said Lawrence Brickman, Accedo Vice President of Strategic Partnerships. “We look forward to bringing the power of Accedo’s TV application solutions to the rapidly growing RDK community.”

Accedo will demonstrate its app store solution, including a reference app store portal and examples of HTML5 apps from Accedo’s app portfolio, at the 2014 Cable Show to be held April 29th – May 1st in Los Angeles, California.
