Accedo Powers Olympics Smart TV Service for Terra

Stockholm, Sweden, 19 July 2012 – Accedo, market leading enabler of Smart TV and IPTV apps today announced that it has developed an Olympics app for Terra (Telefónica Group), a global digital media company and leading Internet provider in Latin America

The service will see Terra’s Smart TV customers in Brazil follow the live action from London 2012 and share their experience in the most popular Social Networks through their connected TV set. The application includes up to twenty channels, offering live coverage of the Olympics.

Global events like the Olympics introduce time zone challenges for live TV consumption, and the app will give consumers access to a wide-ranging catch-up TV service, enabling them to stay up-to-date with all of the latest action as well as allowing the users to gain access to real time information.

“We are delighted to be working with Terra on this Olympics application,” commented Michael Lantz, CEO, Accedo. “Sports applications are the perfect blend of interactivity and content, and are very appealing for consumers. This TV app includes dedicated niche channels, catch-up TV as well as interactive social media features which we believe will enhance consumer uptake and loyalty.”

The app is also the first commercial deployment of Accedo’s Social Integration Toolkit, a software module which gives users the ability to engage with the application via Facebook and Twitter directly on their TV.

“Brazil with around a 70% of the Smart TV LatAm business is a strategic market for Accedo LatAm business,“ commented Jerónimo Macanas, VP LatAm, Accedo. “Terra brand leadership in the region is the perfect partner for innovation around OTT in this fast growing digital market.”

“Our priority was to deliver an innovative and appealing service to our customers, bringing up-to-the-minute content from the Olympics, both live and on-demand,” commented Lilian Viana, Innovation Manager, Terra. “With their vast experience delivering Smart TV services and applications, and our challenging time plan, Accedo was a natural choice to power this service.”

The Terra Olympics service, developed by Accedo, is available on Samsung, LG, and Philips Connected TVs. This application is the first specific event application for Terra, which plans to develop other similar services for future events, such as the Football World Cup
