ADVA Optical Networking Scores Industry First with Brocade Qualified 16Gbit/s Fibre Channel

New Card Supports All Features of Brocade’s Gen 5 Fibre Channel Technology

San Francisco, USA. June 26, 2013. ADVA Optical Networking announced today that its 16Gbit/s Fibre Channel (FC) card is the first in the networking industry to achieve Brocade qualification. Following completion of interoperability testing as part of Brocade’s Gen 5 Fibre Channel program, the ADVA 16Gbit/s FC card (4WCE/16G) will be a key component for enterprises seeking to evolve their high-density server virtualization, cloud architectures and storage applications. The card is generally available and has already been deployed by a number of financial organizations.

“The continued explosion in bandwidth demand, when combined with growing expectations to access data-intensive applications, is driving customer need for the combination of ADVA Optical Networking transport solutions linked by Brocade Gen 5 Fibre Channel technologies,” said Jack Rondoni, vice president, Data Center Storage and Solutions at Brocade. “The increased performance of Brocade Gen 5 Fibre Channel technology better enables the functionality of the ADVA FSP 3000 by simplifying network operations and improving network resiliency.”

Delivering full 16Gbit/s FC over wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks enables enterprises to transport data across increasingly large distances: A critical element in today’s business continuity and disaster recovery planning. Designed to enable a seamless and non-disruptive upgrade from current 8Gbit/s FC deployments, ADVA Optical Networking’s 16Gbit/s FC card natively supports all Brocade Gen 5 FC features, including the lowest latency on the market.

FC is a key component for many enterprise networks and analysts expect it to gain even stronger market share with the migration to 16Gbit/s. Dell’Oro Group forecasts 16Gbit/s FC will exceed 8Gbit/s FC as soon as mid-2013. Often a vital building block in mission-critical networks and highly-virtualized environments, 16Gbit/s FC is vital for enterprises seeking to transport rapidly increasing bandwidth loads at faster speeds. ADVA Optical Networking’s 16Gbit/s FC card does exactly this while still being backwards compatible with previous FC releases.

“Brocade has an innate understanding of the data center environment, of the data center community,” commented Ulrich Schlegel, business development SAN solutions, ADVA Optical Networking. “We’ve worked side-by-side for many years ensuring that both our solutions seamlessly interoperate. This is something our customers value. Our 16Gbit/s FC card is no different. Our engineering team has developed a card that is simply plug and play in any Brocade Gen 5 FC environment. When your mission-critical data is at stake, this ease of use, this reliability is vital.”
