ADVANCED BROADAST SOLUTIONS TAKES VIDEO COMPRESSION SOLUTIONS FROM ELEMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES ON TOUR

by david.nunes

SEATAC, WA, August 16, 2010 – Premier systems integration firm Advanced Broadcast Solutions (ABS) will team with Elemental Technologies next week to present “Media Multiplied™ on Tour,” a roadshow series of free presentations demonstrating Elemental’s video transcoding solutions for broadcast customers and online video content producers.

ABS, which was recently named the Pacific Northwest system integrator for Elemental, will host the road show at its main facility in SeaTac, Wash., on Aug. 24. The road show will move to KSPS Public Television in Spokane, Wash., on Aug. 25. Both locations will feature two, two-hour sessions beginning at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. In cooperation with the Society of Broadcast Engineers Chapter 115, the road show will conclude in Boise, Idaho, at Stonehouse on Aug. 26, with a two-hour presentation starting at noon.

Elemental uses off-the-shelf, programmable graphics processing units (GPUs) for video processing and conversion. Using both GPU and CPU processors, along with custom video algorithms developed in-house, the company delivers high-speed, high-quality video compression in a reduced footprint and at a much lower cost than competing solutions. Founded in 2006 and based in Portland, Ore., Elemental partners with technology companies including Adobe and NVIDIA to develop innovative products for today’s digital media workflows.

Last year, the company introduced Elemental Server, a massively parallel, file-based video transcoding system, which uses multiple GPUs to produce up to eight simultaneous HD outputs. Elemental Server supports a variety of input and output files, and can create a mix of multiple resolution, bit rate, and formatted files in faster-than-real-time.

Elemental Live, introduced in April, is a massively parallel video processing system that provides broadcasters and other content distributors with video and audio encoding for live event streaming. From its user-friendly Web-based interface, Elemental Live allows simultaneous encoding of up to four 1080p streams, eight 720p video streams, or multiple adaptive streaming outputs for Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and Apple iPhone and iPad.

“As Internet and mobile video markets continue to grow, content providers rely on companies like Elemental to deliver content for a variety of platforms and players,” said Mark Siegel, President of ABS. “The ‘Media Multiplied on Tour’ roadshow is an ideal forum to showcase the company’s innovative and cost-effective solutions for broadcasters and online media in the Pacific Northwest.”

“Traditional compression solutions can’t scale to meet the growing need for video processing required for broadcast, mobile, and Web-based video playback. At Elemental, we provide solutions that deliver content faster while lowering operating expenses,” said Dan Marshall, Vice President of Sales at Elemental Technologies. “Our partner network is one of the keys to our success, and we look forward to working with ABS to provide a first-class video production and delivery experience for our mutual customers.”
