AFP – THE FIRST GLOBAL NEWS AGENCY

TO LAUNCH ITS iPAD APPLICATION IN SPANISH AND PORTUGUESE

GLOBAL NEWS AGENCY AFP LAUNCHES ITS IPAD APPLICATION IN SPANISH AND PORTUGUESE ON

NOVEMBER 28TH.

AFP continues to develop its presence on iPad with versions in Spanish and Portuguese, following its launch in English in September. This new offer, available free on the App Store allows access to a selection of news stories, photos, video and graphics produced by the Agency’s Spanish and Portuguese editorial desks backed by AFP’s worldwide network of journalists.

The launch of an iPad application in Portuguese and Spanish is part of a series of investments underway in Latin America. AFP wants to position itself closer to greater public demand for international news which only a global news agency, with a network of 1,500 journalists in 150 countries, can provide in an immediate and relevant way,” said Emmanuel Hoog, Chairman and Chief Executive of Agence France-Presse.

The best of international news is accessible in real time from the app’s homepage, providing the latest news in pictures and video, which link to news stories. Links to sections on Latin America, World, Sport, Economy, Science and Technology, Culture, Society and Ecology are accessible from this page, which has a screentop breaking news ticker. Three editions are available – for Latin America, Spain and Brazil.

With one click, photo and video slideshows with captions put the news in context. Photo galleries accessible from the homepage provide the best images of the day in sport, fashion, arts and the offbeat.

AFP goes further by offering another view of the world through a feature section specially developed for the iPad by AFP’s web and mobile department.

It has two sections loaded with stories, photos, videos and graphics to provide a deeper understanding of the

news:

– Reportages: AFP’s take on the world, covering subjects such as society, the arts, fashion…

– Analyses: providing an in-depth look at stories making the news.

Some of this content is also available on the iPhone application which has been available since January 2010 in 5 languages – English, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Arabic.
