Fife, Scotland, UK – March 17th 2014 – AIMS International, one of the foremost innovators and suppliers of cutting edge software solutions to the Broadband industry, has welcomed the finalisation of the Broadband Forum Technical Report on testing for Vectored VDSL2 systems – TR-249. The company, a Broadband Forum member, has been developing its testing platform in accordance with the proposals in the draft technical report and is ready to launch its TR-249-compliant test platform for vectored VDSL2 systems immediately.

Finalised and published at the Broadband Forum’s Quarterly meeting in Malta (March 10-15th), TR-249 provides a set of performance, functional requirements and test methods for vectoring-capable VDSL2 systems. The technical report focuses on the testing of vectoring functionality within a combination of a particular DSLAM type and a particular CPE type. For network operators the report enables them to verify vectoring-specific performance and functionality and thus facilitate consistent and successful vectored VDSL2 services for their customers.

AIMS International, a Broadband Forum member, has been keen to see the completion of the TR-249 report and has aligned its development to the deliberations and conclusions of the working group and authors of the report in order to be ready with its test platform upon publication of the report. The company is therefore able to provide its customers with testing platforms for Vectored VDSL2 that conform to the accepted industry standards.

CEO of AIMS International, Doug Hay, said: “We have been following the progress of the new TR-249 and are delighted with the outcome. We now have a testing platform we can offer to service providers and vendors that allow them to ensure that their vectored VDSL2 services are at the forefront of industry standards. They can demonstrate that their solutions are fully interoperable and have the capabilities to provide increased data rates expected of vectored VDSL2.

“This demonstrates both the value of membership and participation in the Broadband Forum in giving us the technical information we need to develop our software programmes and by enabling us as industry experts to be involved in the debate on standards and specifications.”

AIMS International has based its Vectored VDSL2 Test solution on TR-249, providing its customers with a highly efficient testing platform that allows telecom operators, ISPs, modem manufacturers and conformance test labs to run checks according to industry standards.

Robin Mersh, CEO of the Broadband Forum, added: “We are pleased to see that TR-249 is already gaining widespread acceptance within the industry and that members such as AIMS International are prepared to build their R&D programmes around the draft reports even before they are published. These specifications are powerful tools for our members and the industry to use to ensure faster deployment of new standards such as vectored VDSL2 which is helping to bringer faster broadband to more users.”

The company has integrated a powerful Graphical User Interface (GUI) to control its Vectored VDSL2 environments for modem testing. The GUI is run from an external PC and allows users to control a number of elements in the test scenario, including various DSLAM types, such as those from Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei, making it an integrated solution that meets the requirements of various organisations to test their own products and services.

AIMS International supplies a range of DSL test solutions for all types of copper-based technologies from ADSL to Vectored VDSL2. Solutions are designed according to Broadband Forum technical specifications (TRs), NICC standards and industry best practice.

Vectored VDSL2 is a technology that is up and coming for driving more performance from DSL networks and increasing broadband capacity over copper and is becoming increasingly deployed world-wide. The publication of the new TR-249 gives assurance to AIMS International’s increasing number of customers and will contribute to the company’s aim of expanding into further markets worldwide.
