AIRCOM International sleeping rough for Action for Children

Leatherhead, UK – 4 September, 2012 – Employees from mobile network software company AIRCOM International will be out in the cold on Friday 5th October, raising money for Action for Children. Company CEO Alwyn Welch will be joined by some of his senior management team and several other employees, sleeping outdoors in London by Tower Bridge in support of the Byte Night initiative.

Byte Night is spearheaded by the UK IT industry, in conjunction with Action for Children, supporting vulnerable homeless children across the UK.

“Byte Night is a hugely worthwhile initiative and we’re proud to support it,” said Alwyn Welch, CEO, AIRCOM International. “One night’s discomfort doesn’t come close to some of the appalling conditions that some children have to endure on a daily basis throughout the UK. We look forward to raising as much money as we possibly can for Action for Children.”

The charity sleep out has so far recruited over 1000 sleepers, a record in its fifteenth year, to take part in events in Belfast, Cambridge, London, Edinburgh and Thames Valley, and looks set to smash its fundraising target of £5 million.

“Everyone who has taken part over the years has made a real difference to the lives of so many vulnerable young people”, said Ken Deeks, Byte Night founder and director of the Amber Group. “It’s fantastic to have the support of the more than 2,000 sleepers who have taken part over the years and we’re delighted the AIRCOM teams are taking part.”

Byte Night is hosted annually in aid of Action for Children, a charity that has been raising money for vulnerable children for over 130 years. At least 75,000 children and young people experience homelessness each year. Many young people become homeless through no fault of their own – for at least two thirds of young homeless people, conflict with their family is the cause of their homelessness, and up to a third of all those sleeping on the streets will have experience of local authority care.

Action for Children works to prevent youth homelessness through early intervention by ensuring that young people across the UK are given the support they need before it’s too late.
