AIS Expands its Versatile, Virtual Data Center Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Capability to Phoenix

AIS BusinessCloud1 provides local markets a simple migration path to VMware-based cloud services and gives national clients geographic diversity for disaster recovery

SAN DIEGO, Calif., September 25, 2012 – AIS (American Internet Services), a leading provider of enterprise-class data center, cloud, and connectivity services, today announced availability of its flagship AIS BusinessCloud1 cloud service in Phoenix, Arizona. Originally unveiled in June 2012, AIS BusinessCloud1 is San Diego’s first full-featured VMware-based cloud service built with state-of-the-art compute, network, and storage technologies optimized for security, performance, and reliability.

With an emphasis on AIS’ concierge-style customer support, AIS BusinessCloud1 is an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering that provides small, medium, and enterprise customers a flexible migration path to the cloud for IT infrastructure expansion, disaster recovery, and test/development applications.

Regardless of client location, AIS BusinessCloud1 availability in San Diego and now Phoenix provides the ideal geographic diversity needed for the implementation of disaster recovery plans; Phoenix is widely recognized as being one of the most stable regions of the country.

Since AIS operates its own private optical network between data centers, client applications and data can be synchronized easily and quickly between Phoenix and San Diego while maintaining security and integrity not available when using the Internet for transport. This unique attribute minimizes client Return To Operation (RTO) time in the event of a disaster.

AIS BusinessCloud1 was designed specifically to accommodate hybrid physical / virtual configurations so that clients are not forced to go 100% virtual, thus allowing the full lifespan utilization and return on investment of customer IT equipment already purchased and deployed.

“As more of our clients have expressed a desire for geographic diversity, AIS has been investing in and expanding our presence in Arizona,” said Tim Caulfield, chief executive officer at AIS. “Plus, we know there are many businesses in Phoenix that want a VMware-based cloud service without being forced into a one-size-fits-all box. With AIS, we’ll provide them with a tailored solution backed with Nordstrom-like service we know they’ll value.”

Under the Hood

AIS BusinessCloud1 is a fully redundant, enterprise-grade cloud service that was designed with security, performance, and reliability in mind. Featuring a self-healing systems architecture with automated failover, there are no single points of failure (SPoF).

All components of AIS BusinessCloud1 are enterprise-grade with full redundancy, technical support, and warranty coverage.

  • Network Switching: Arista Networks 7048 and 7050 – 10GbE switches
  • Storage: NetAppR FAS3240 controllers with Flash Cache modules, SAS and
    SATA drives
  • Compute: Dell R600-series servers

Additional features and benefits:

  • Flexibility: Network and compute architecture can be customized to  meet almost any business requirement.
  • Security:  Client resources are isolated in “virtual private data centers” that can be integrated easily into an existing (physical) security infrastructure.
  • Performance: Both standard and high-performance storage options capable of providing up to 4,000 IOPS.
  • Control:  In addition to the self-service portal, clients can access the VMware vCloud DirectorR API to automate operations or extend their existing vCenter management to their AIS BusinessCloud1 resources.

Pricing and Availability

AIS BusinessCloud1 is available now in both Phoenix and San Diego. AIS offers flexible pricing options for both “pay as you go” and for allocated resources; each includes real-time support and access to the self-provisioning VMware vCloudDirector portal and API.
