Alcatel-Lucent and Maintrac selected by IP-Only to bring ultra-broadband fiber network to homes and businesses nationwide in Sweden
New Point-to-Point Ethernet network will provide wholesale services up to 1 gigabit-per-second
Stockholm/Paris, February 18, 2014 – Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext and NYSE: ALU) today announced that IP-Only, one of the leading independent wholesale broadband providers in the Nordic region, has selected its Point-to-Point Ethernet technology for a new fiber-to-the-premises (FTTx) network.
The network – to be built by Maintrac, Alcatel-Lucent’s channel partner in Sweden – will bring ultra-broadband access connectivity to homes and businesses across Sweden.
IP-Only will use the network to increase its market share in the wholesale market by leasing bandwidth of up to 1 giga-bit-per-second (Gbps) to regional media and services providers, government organizations and large enterprises throughout the country.
- IP-Only is investing in a new Point-to-Point fiber network for homes and businesses across Sweden. A Point-to-Point network provides a dedicated fiber connection to each customer and is capable of delivering high-speed, high-quality broadband services
- IP-Only has selected Alcatel-Lucent’s Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) solution with the Access Management System. The ISAM has the capacity and flexibility to converge business and residential services on the same network and supports an upgrade path to next-generation fiber technologies to protect the investment
- Maintrac, Alcatel-Lucent’s channel partner in Sweden, will provide network integration and project management services for the deployment
- Under The Shift Plan, Alcatel-Lucent’s industrial strategy to become a specialist vendor of IP Networking and Ultra-Broadband Access, advanced fiber access technologies such as those being provided to IP-Only form a core part of the company’s development focus, enabling more and more service providers to easily transition to superfast broadband services in response to rising residential and business demand.
Mikael Westerlund, CTO of IP-Only: “With 22 percent of Swedish households already enjoying broadband over fiber there are high expectations in our marketplace to be met. It’s important for IP-Only to have a solution that we can rely on not only in terms of performance but also in terms of flexibility and reliability to meet our ambitious growth plans in wholesale business and residential services. Alcatel-Lucent’s FTTP technology enables us to expand our coverage and gives us a platform on which to develop new offers. ”
Luis Martinez Amago, President EMEA of Alcatel-Lucent: “Alcatel-Lucent’s ISAM platform powers some of the largest Point-to-Point ultra-broadband networks in the world and together with Maintrac we are delighted to help IP-Only strengthen its position in the Swedish market.”
