Alestra Chooses Cisco to Enable the DC 3.0 Architecture at its New Data Center in Querétaro

Cisco Live! Cancún, November 5, 2013- At Cisco Live!, Alestra announced that DC 3.0 architecture based on Cisco technology has been choosen to complement its Data Center as a Service (DCaaS) solution offered to the Mexican Enterprise market, as part of its IT managed services strategy to equip its new Data Center at Querétaro city, considered the most modern and innovative in Latin America.

The DC 3.0 architecture is based on

  • Cisco Nexus Data Center family – Cisco Nexus 7000, 5000, 2000 and 1000 – the modular network switches designed for the next-generation data center;
  • Cisco ASA 5585 that delivers industry-leading threat protection and content control at the Internet edge providing comprehensive antivirus, anti-spyware, file blocking, anti-spam, anti-phishing, URL blocking and filtering, and content filtering; and
  • Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) to unify computing, networking, management, virtualization, and storage access into a single integrated architecture

Two years ago, during Cisco Live! Mexico 2011, Alestra became the first Information Technology and Communications provider in Mexico to enable an enterprise-class cloud environment, when the company deployed at their facilities in Monterrey the first cloud platform to offer full managed virtual computing, storage and backup environments as a cloud offering. Now, the Enterprise Cloud Computing service offered by Alestra and based on Cisco technology has become one of the most recogniced products within its IT portfolio with important growth rates above 60% year over year.

In 2012, Alestra became the first company in Mexico to earn the Cisco Cloud Provider certification due to its major level of specialization and quality in the delivery of cloud services. At Cisco Partner Summit 2013, Alestra was awarded  as Cloud Partner of the Year within the LATAM region.

“Alestra is a company that is focused on providing advanced technology solutions to transform the way of doing  business in Mexico, becoming real partners of Mexican enterprises. This is our mission and our main challenge, which is why we want to consolidate constant alliances with technology leaders, in order to implement the best industry options  in our solutions”, said Rolando Zubirán, General Director at Alestra. “With no doubts we are creating the most advanced Data Center in Mexico and in LATAM region, implementing best of breed technology. That is why Cisco was choosen to provide the technology to enable the DC 3.0 architecture”, he added.

“In our most recent Cloud Index we have found that the global data center IP traffic in 2017 will be nearly three times greater than it was in 2012. Alestra is moving forward to offer in the Mexican market the capacity to support the amount of data that companies are increasingly requiring”, said Rogelio Velasco, Vicepresident of Cisco Mexico. “Alestra and Cisco have been partners for some years now. Cisco is a major supplier for the Alestra IP network, including core and end user’s equipment and we will continue to support them in the development of their portfolio”.

Alestra’s DCaaS  has been added to the company’s portfolio, as one of the first solutions to be supplied from the new Data Center in the city of Queretaro and complementing its current offering from Monterrey DC, fully managed  from its Holistic Operation Center (HOC), located also in Monterrey. It is a solution designed to offer Alestra customers all the elements that a company requires to modernize and transform its IT environment, combining cloud  functional elements that guarantee high availability with high reliability and flexible interconnectivity services, with proper redundancy schemes to minimize risks and reduce times either by technology failures or even human erros,  avoiding companies hosted in the Data Center unnecesary investments since many of the required technology components are offered as fully managed services.

The DC3.0 architecture also enables Alestra to offer the connectivity between its two main Data Centers locations, Monterrey and Queretaro, under  a secure, high availabity and efficient environment, with less than 16 milliseconds of delay between locations, which allows the design, implementation and operation of a wide range of architectures to support the Business Continuity Planning (BCP), from simple configurations of hot stand by to fully managed Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP) sophisticated solutions and with service proposals and architectures to meet needs of medium, large and very large corporations.

Alestra endorses its commitment with the tecnological and economic development of Mexico and will continue anticipating the requirements of the Mexican market jointly with technology partners such as Cisco, in order to develop solutions that increase productivity and support companies in the development of new business opportunities

Alestra is a Cisco Gold Partner and a Managed Service Cisco Partner.
