Antennenbau Muth selects KEYMILE technology to build optical fibre network in Halle, Germany

Hanover, 16 December 2013 – In Halle, Germany, broadband network operator Antennenbau Muth has built an optical fibre network using KEYMILE’s multi-service access platform MileGate. It can now supply around 30,000 subscribers. As a result, these customers will receive ultra-fast broadband access based on cutting-edge technology.

Nowadays, similarly to electricity and water, broadband access is a basic need. Furthermore, fast Internet access is also an important factor when businesses are choosing bases, particularly in a university town like Halle. Local network provider Antennenbau Muth, a Muth Group company, set up its own urban network in various parts of the town in several phases. To do so it’s been using KEYMILE’s multi-service access platform MileGate for several years. FTTB, or Fiber-to-the-Building, is a key aspect of the project. Existing copper infrastructure is then used in the buildings themselves. By the end of 2013, the broadband-network operator will supply 30,000 subscribers in Halle town centre with a comprehensive portfolio of telephony, Internet and TV.

MileGate combines broadband access, telephony and data interfaces in one single compact Ethernet/IP-based multi-service access platform. Its very high port-density is another of its outstanding characteristics. Due to its compact design and low power consumption, network operators can deploy MileGate in exchanges, plant rooms or outdoor cabinets. MileGate applies active Ethernet technology to connect subscribers and therefore delivers top bandwidths of up to 1,000 Mbps for each connection. The Ethernet Point-to-Point technology creates the foundations for sustainable network infrastructure. Some of MileGate’s key features are the open management interfaces which enable network operators to integrate the provisioning process into their own processes easily and therefore to connect new customers effectively and cost-effectively.

Due to Antennenbau Muth’s longstanding experience, its subsidiary Muth KG can deliver a one-stop solution for broadband expansion which is offered to other network operators or local authorities. The solution includes all components for broadband networks, starting with passive components like empty conduits, cables or sleeves, all accessories and tools and active components such as KEYMILE’s MileGate. The software for all processes required for operating the broadband network comes from another company in the Muth Group, Muth SEV Software Entwicklung und Vertrieb. Antennenbau Muth’s urban network in Halle serves as a reference project for interested customers.

“The proximity to a supplier who manufactures and develops in Germany played a pivotal role in our decision to pick KEYMILE. Whenever we had technical and organisational queries it was quick to contact people directly”, explains Andreas Muth, CEO of Antennenbau Muth and Muth SEV in Halle. “For some years now, we’ve been partnering closely with KEYMILE and are impressed by the top technical quality of its products, our excellent working relationship with them and the way day-to-day businesses operations are looked after in the projects completed. Due to the future-proof expansion of the networks with MileGate we will also in times ahead be able to respond to the dramatically increasing demand for bandwidth due to the rapid growth of the Internet”.
