ARRIS and Cisco Agree on C-Band Multi-Wavelength Interoperability
Suwanee, GA – November 15, 2011: ARRIS Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARRS) and Cisco today announced an agreement on a wavelength management plan in the C-band (1550 nm) that will provide cable operators with a stable and robust International Telecommunication Union (ITU)-based full spectrum Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) multi-wavelength optical solution for increased capacity and expanded services. This interoperability agreement addresses multiple customer demands to ease the architectural complexities in the multi-wavelength landscape.
“Today’s agreement is the culmination of years of cooperative research in multi-wavelength technology to establish stable and robust full spectrum solutions for cable service providers,” said John Caezza, president of the ARRIS Access, Transport and Supplies Group. “It offers a clear, easily deployable and cost-effective solution for industry-wide consideration and implementation.”
“It is encouraging to see two industry-leading technology companies collaborate in a way that will ultimately benefit service providers,” said Steve Condra, director of architectures for Cisco’s Cable Access Business Unit. “We look forward to helping our customers simplify their current and future architectures as a result of this agreement.”
A joint technical paper authored by ARRIS and Cisco engineers entitled: “When Wavelengths Collide, Chaos Ensues: Engineering Stable and Robust Full Spectrum Multi-Wavelength HFC Networks” will be presented at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo technical forum in Atlanta, GA on Thursday November 17, 2011 from 1:00 – 2:15PM. Both companies have indicated that their respective full spectrum multi-wavelength solutions are fully productized.
