Aston is proud to announce the launch of its new generation of PCMCIA modules with secure chipset and CI+ standard

At the IBC 2011, Aston will be unveiling its new range of consumer and professional PCMCIA modules, based on an exclusive solution developed in partnership with Renesas Electronics (Merge between NEC Electronics and RENESAS Technology), and including never seen before functionalities.

Bagnolet, France, 9 September 2011 – As a major player in the consumer and professional PCMCIA modules market for over 15 years, the French manufacturer Aston is launching its new range of consumer and professional PCMCIA modules. Based on an exclusive solution developed in partnership with Renesas Electronics, this new range with secure chipset technology provides the market with all new innovations. As well as unequalled descrambling capacities, the industrial group is proud to announce another major innovation – through exclusive Aston development, the new range of modules will be USB-Ready! Via this new generation, Aston is demonstrating again that innovation is a core value in its strategy!

Aston is taking advantage of the IBC in order to unveil its new range of CI/CI+ secure PCMCIA modules, which it is planned will go on the market by the end of 2011. A major player is this sector for over 15 years, Aston is also the oldest and its products are benchmarks for the market, particularly when it comes to software reliability and stability.

A PCMCIA module based on an exclusive solution

The new range of Aston professional and consumer modules is based on an exclusive technology, developed in close partnership with Renesas Electronics (Merge of NEC Electronics with RENESAS Technology), a key actor in the components market. Aston and Renesas Electronics have been cooperating technically for more than 24 months which has enabled their teams to co-specify the integrated processor for the new modules. This solution also benefits from exclusive Aston developments which have led to the integration of a mini-processor to improve the technical capacity of the modules even further. All of these specifications, completed by a level of software performance corresponding to the constructor’s expertise, provide real added value features in terms of technical capacities and functionalities.

Secure modules, CI/CI+, in Viaccess 4.1 version to begin with

The new generation of Aston modules will have an integrated secure chipset, ensuring the highest level of security for currently available and future contents. By the end of 2011, Aston will be launching the first VIACCESS secure professional modules integrating ACS 4.1 version. In addition, a consumer version will also be available – Aston will be offering the first consumer CI+ secure Viaccess 4.1 module. With the intention being to integrate various other CAS available on the market, secure CONAX CAS 7 professional and CI+ consumer compatible versions will also follow. To go even further, versions with other CAS will be developed between the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012.

Never seen before descrambling abilities

The exclusive solution co-developed by Aston and Renesas Electronics, added to Aston’s expertise in terms of software, enabled the industrial group to offer a module with unequalled descrambling capacities – the new range of Aston professional PCMCIA modules can descramble up to 16 channels simultaneously on the same frequency, which is double the amount currently available on the market! This capacity also relates to the descrambling of stream components (“Elementary Streams” or PID) – Depending on the integrated CAS, the module can descramble from 48 up to 64 PID! Here also, its capacity is without equivalent on the market. Operators can now make the most of an optimal solution as regards descrambling capacities of their headend solutions, enabling them to vastly minimise the cost of their installation while keeping a high level of reliability. The consumer versions of the new generation of modules still offer the possibility of decrypting two channels simultaneously (known as “Dual” modules). As such it provides the consumer with greater ease of use, enabling them to watch one channel while recording another on the same frequency.

Exclusive Aston Innovation – USB Ready modules!

Loyal to its strategy of innovation, Aston is providing its new range of modules with a major new release, a true revolution in the global PCMCIA market – a USB connection! The new generation of Aston modules will be USB-Ready. The result of a great deal of hard R&D work by the Aston teams, this functionality, which is unique on the market , makes the module compatible with USB storage media. The module therefore offers the the end user the highest ever reached level of flexibility and ease of use, enabling updates via USB or even upgrade of the PCMCIA module through the addition of PVR-Ready functions!

Security, unequalled descrambling capacities, USB-Ready functionalities, available from launch in VIACCESS 4.1 version and secure CONAX CAS 7 version to follow – the new range of PCMCIA modules with Aston’s name on illustrates the manufacturer’s ambitions on the international PCMCIA modules market!
