TIA: Edge Data Center and Computing Standards Working Group Meeting,

Arlington, Virginia, 30 August, 2017

The purpose of the Edge Data Center and Computing Standards Working Group initiative is to provide assurance, confidence and engagement across the supply chain so that a large ’network’ of smaller micro data centers can be developed and managed without introducing significant additional risk and cost.

The goal of the working group is to evaluate industry needs and drive market acceleration for Edge Data Center solutions by providing standards, criteria, documentation, and other related knowledge transfer vehicles.

Infomart Dallas Expands Capacity of Its Carrier-Neutral Building Meet-Me Room

Infomart Data Centers, a national wholesale data center provider, today announces that it has doubled the capacity of its carrier-neutral Building Meet-Me Room (BMMR) within Infomart Dallas, upgrading infrastructure to accommodate future carrier installations.  Launched in 2015, the Infomart Dallas BMMR has seen quick adoption from carriers, ISPs, and cloud applications, which is driving this expansion.  Infomart also announces the addition of Verizon Communications Inc. and Cloud Service Provider ServedBy the Net, which have established new Points of Presence (PoPs) in the Dallas interconnection hub’s BMMR.

studio equipment manufacturer Rohde & Schwarz will highlight the R&S THR9 high-power transmitter at the 2017 Radio Show (Booth 305) next month in Austin, Texas. The only HD Radio™ transmitter with 100 percent liquid cooling technology, the R&S THR9 attains efficiency values of up to 75 percent in analog FM mode.

BICSI Sign MOU with FTTH Council Africa

ICSI, the association advancing the information and communications technology (ICT) community, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with FTTH Council Africa.

The purpose of this MOU is to promote collaboration and information-sharing between FTTH Council Africa and BICSI, which will foster the growth and advancement of the ICT community globally.

This MOU demonstrates the commitment at both the FTTH Council Africa and BICSI to further these goals through collaboration and information-sharing on events, education, marketing, and standards development.

China Television System Selects Net Insight for Host Broadcast of World  UNIVERSIADE 2017 GAMES

Net Insight, the leading provider of media transport and resource scheduling, today announced that Chinese Television System (CTS), the national broadcaster of Taiwan, is deploying a Nimbra 140 solution to enhance the production values of its host broadcast coverage of the World Universiade 2017 Games. MegaFon demonstrates the first commercial Gigabit LTE Network in Russia

MegaFon has demonstrated the first commercial Gigabit LTE Network in Russia, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform.

Today’s event is another Gigabit LTE milestone, especially in the telecoms development in Russia. Gigabit LTE is about more than just peak speeds. It is also about delivering more network capacity, to benefit all users in the network, not only those users with Gigabit LTE devices. MegaFon is the first in Russia to showcase the functioning of a Gigabit LTE commercial network.

Africa: Mozilla-backed research reveals main barriers to internet access in African countries

Compelling Mozilla-backed research, carried out by Research ICT Africa, finds that significant barriers to internet access remains in four African countries – Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. The research aims to understand, from a comparative perspective, how the citizens use the internet when data is subsidised and when it is not.

Knowing that affordability is one of the primary barriers to Internet access and particular optimal use, the main objective of the focus groups was to obtain qualitative information that reflects the perceptions of female and male Internet users, new users, and non-Internet users from urban and rural locations about how people use the Internet.
