BICS’s IPX platform connects LTE services across three continents

Telecom customers in Canada, Switzerland and South Korea can now use LTE services thanks to new roaming relations supported by BICS

Brussels – Belgium, 5 September 2013: BICS, a global provider of wholesale carrier services, today announced its IPX platform has enabled Rogers, Swisscom and SK Telecom to perform LTE roaming over IPX between countries in Europe, North America and Asia, confirming its role as a leading provider of LTE roaming solutions.

After the establishment of intercontinental LTE roaming between Europe and Asia in June this year, both Swisscom and SK Telecom now also offer subscribers intercontinental LTE roaming in Canada through an agreement with Rogers Communications. At the same time, Rogers’ customers can now access LTE services while roaming in South Korea or Switzerland. Using BICS’s IPX network and LTE Diameter Signalling service, the three operators are now able to meet customer demand and provide their subscribers with a high speed data roaming experience.

IPX enables mobile operators to exchange any bilateral IP traffic (voice, video, messaging and all data services) with any IPX destination, through one single interconnection and with an end-to-end management of quality. Using IPX, BICS transports mobile operators’ LTE traffic across the world with low latency, guaranteed quality of service, capital and operating expense savings, cascaded billing and payments in a fully secured environment.

“The launch of LTE roaming to customers of Swisscom, SK Telecom and Rogers marks the start of a new era for international roaming services,” says Mikaël Schachne, VP Mobile Data Business at BICS. “We are currently supporting the data roaming needs of over 200 operators worldwide and we anticipate that these, and other service providers, will see the value in migrating to IPX to offer LTE services to their customers.

Virtually any operator can connect to the BICS IPX network, including Mobile Network Operators, MVNO’s, MVNE’s, Fixed Network Operators, ISPs and ASPs. By doing so, they become part of a private cloud, facilitating access to Next Generation IP based hubbing services and offering customers the highest quality data services available.”

To reduce the complexity of implementing LTE, BICS offers a full suite of services allowing fast and easy roll-out of LTE, seamless 2G/3G/4G worldwide roaming experiences, interoperability with other networks, full traffic monitoring, alerting and troubleshooting to the highest reliability and quality of service.
