Boardroom bikers bring technology to The Tour

London, Cycling is booming. London alone has seen a 91 per cent increase in the number of cycle journeys since 2000, with more than 500,000 trips a day. *The recent introduction of Barclays cycle scheme in London has also proved to be a huge success, with the latest figures showing the scheme now has 60,000 members. And with research from Sport England showing recreational cycling as the second fastest growing sport in Britain (after athletics) the British cycling phenomenon is set to continue this autumn with one of the countries most popular sporting events, The Tour of Britain.

The Tour of Britain is the UK’s biggest professional cycle race and is a cornerstone of the British sporting calendar. Outsourcery, the UK’s leading Cloud computing and unified communications provider for business is proud to show its support by sponsoring The Tour. The event has grown to become an eight day event, allowing it to visit more parts of the UK than ever before and on Saturday 11th September, The Tour kick’s off in Rochdale, where some of the world’s top cyclists will gather ahead of eight tough days of competition on British roads and the race will come to a close on Saturday 18th September in the heart of London.

Piers Linney, Joint CEO of Outsourcery and keen cyclist will be at The Tour to present the cyclists with their awards. Commenting on the race, Piers said “Outsourcery is extremely pleased to be the Official Technology Partner for this year’s Tour of Britain and Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Rides. I have a personal interest in cycling and everything that comes with it namely the community, the sport, the fitness and the freedom. The Tour’s success lies in that it offers something for everyone, from professional to family and mixed ability rides. The Tour requires complex logistics to organise the eight-day race across the UK and a team that grows from 15 to 600 during the races. Outsourcery will be helping with the technology aspects and the information needs of many others following the race.”

Alastair Grant, Commercial Manager of The Tour of Britain said, “Outsourcery has taken on the challenge of providing the IT applications and support for the complicated logistics of this exciting eight-day race. The Tour will require flexible and mobile IT systems to keep pace with the bikers as they race around the UK. The organisers, followers and participants will be relying on the technology for real-time communication and access to up to date information, using reliable cloud computing and mobile technologies, such as email, intranet, customer relationship management solutions (CRM), video conferencing and mobile voice and data communications solutions. The Tour will be guaranteed efficient, flexible and reliable communication and information delivery at every stage of the race. In fact the slogan being used by Outsourcery is ‘IT and comms for every stage.’

“With Outsourcery providing the latest in hosted IT solutions, The Tour of Britain can confidently leave the IT to the experts and the cycling to the professionals”.
