Bridgewater Systems Offers Wholesale Solution for WiMAX Service Providers

Enables wholesale/retail business models based on extensive MVNO and WiMAX solutions Ottawa, Canada – September 29, 2008 – Bridgewater Systems (TSX:BWC) today announced a wholesale solution for WIMAX service providers who wish to leverage their investment in 4G infrastructure with a comprehensive wholesale offering to MVNO and other third-party operators. With this Bridgewater solution, WiMAX service providers can enable third-party operators to offer branded services over their WiMAX network, while managing the complexity of subscriber management functions such as authentication, authorization and accounting on their behalf. The Bridgewater solution supports multiple wholesale/retail business models simultaneously in fixed and mobile WiMAX deployments. * Wholesale service providers can support their own retail subscriber services. * They can also offer a comprehensive wholesale solution including subscriber data management to third-party MVNOs to enable branded service offerings without the need for the MVNO to invest in their own dedicated infrastructure. In this example, the wholesale operator can host subscriber management functions on behalf of the MVNO, including authentication, authorization and streaming of accounting records for billing reconciliation. * For those MVNOs who prefer to manage their own subscribers, the wholesale operator can provide a WiMAX-compliant front end that supports WiMAX-specific subscriber management requirements. As a result, these service providers can leverage their own subscriber management infrastructure but do not need to invest in upgrading to meet stringent WiMAX requirements for EAP, mobile IP and other functions such as lawful intercept. Bridgewater’s unique subscriber data management capabilities provide a common platform to support wholesale and retail operators as they manage their own subscriber databases, with full support for Service Level Agreements, self-administration by retail operators and proven interfaces to charging systems. Bridgewater leverages its carrier-class Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) Service Controller to manage all proxy capabilities for access to the WiMAX network. The high performance proxy support provided by the Bridgewater solution masks the complexity of WiMAX between operators, and ensures that retail subscribers can be properly identified across distributed databases, with full security ensured and accounting records maintained. “Bridgewater has a track record in supporting wholesale models in traditional dial networks and is building on this experience to support similar business models for 4G service providers,” said Phil Thrasher, senior vice president worldwide sales, services and marketing, Bridgewater Systems. “Given our leadership in providing solutions that enable a range of WiMAX services, operators look to Bridgewater to help them evolve their business models to embrace new revenue-generating opportunities with other service providers.” Meet with Bridgewater Systems at WiMAX World October 1- 2, 2008, booth 522. Bridgewater Systems solutions have been selected by more than ten WiMAX service providers across the globe, including Sprint’s new nationwide XOHM WiMAX Network and Scartel LLC. Bridgewater Systems is a finalist in the Industry Innovation category of the Best of WiMAX World 2008 Awards, for the company’s Over-the-Air Provisioning Solution for WiMAX.
