Broadband World Forum: devolo introduces Service Set Plus for telcos and ISPs

by Anthony Weaver

AACHEN, GERMANY 24th September: At BBWF 2019, devolo is presenting itself as a strong partner for international telecommunications companies and ISPs; with a new service portfolio, solutions for perfect WiFi with powerline communications as a backbone and a look at the evolution of home networking.

The event takes place from 15th to 17th October 2019 at the RAI convention centre in Amsterdam, where devolo will be at booth H30. devolo is also inviting visitors to a fireside chat on 16th October, moderated by senior analyst Michael Philpott from Ovum Research.

“Hardware and beyond” – that’s the motto of this year’s appearance of German based devolo AG at the BBWF. The world market leader in power line communications (PLC) has been serving international telecommunications companies and ISPs for many years, mainly as an OEM partner for tailor-made home networking products. At BBWF 2019, the company now introduces the new portfolio “Service Set Plus”, aiming at a quicker time-to-market and lower service costs for its clients.

Service Set Plus: tailored firmware, managed services

As part of the new offering, devolo will enable companies to adapt proven retail products for home networking to their needs: Tailor-made firmware will be installed as soon as the customer puts the PLC or WiFi/PLC adapters into operation. Thus, configurations are set up appropriately right from the start. Additionally, devolo offers telcos and ISPs to provide them with information on the status of the devices and to update them remotely regularly. By this managed service, security patches or modified functions can be installed without high maintenance efforts from the partner. On request, devolo can also take care of the return and refurbishment of the devices. Telcos and ISPs thus save additional costs, and resources are spared.

“Our new service offer is particularly interesting for small and medium-sized telcos and ISPs”, says Sebastian Richter, Senior Product Manager Operator Solutions at devolo. “For them, it might not pay off to have their own OEM product, but at the same time, they want to provide their customers with an individually tailored home networking solution. Combining devolo products, proven millions of times over, tailored firmware and managed services – Service Set Plus now makes this possible.”

Harnessing the potential of fibre connections, integrating WiFi 6: outlook on planned solutions

At booth H30 at BBF, visitors can find out about planned solutions from devolo that bring the power of high-performance fibre optic connections into the home and learn about how devolo will integrate WiFi 6 into its portfolio.

devolo’s current home networking portfolio also forms an important part of the BBWF presence. The products combine the latest generation of PLC, based on G.hn Wave 2, and WiFi to enable seamless coverage across the entire home. Using a powerline backbone, the internet signal is transported over the existing wiring without being impeded by massive ceilings and thick walls. Smart WiFi, Config Sync and Mesh functions ensure greater user comfort and thus actively contribute to reducing the call rate at the service hotline of telcos and ISPs.

Fireside chat “Wire the WiFi”

On the second day of BBWF at 4.55 pm, devolo will host a fireside chat titled “Wire the WiFi” with Sebastian Richter, moderated by Michael Philpott, senior analyst from Ovum Research. Together, they will discuss the best way of distributing Wi-Fi so that coverage is achieved, where it is needed most, and avoids overburdening frequency bands.
