BT CABLES INVESTMENT SECURES 40 UK MANUFACTURING JOBS
MORE than £1 million has been invested in an historic Manchester cables factory to secure 40 new jobs and its long term future.
BT Cables based in Blackley, North Manchester, has completed a significant investment programme in its factory equipment, infrastructure and workforce – and plans for further investment in 2014 with the creation of more jobs.
Kevin Samuel, Chief Commercial Officer for BT Cables Limited, says: “The investment has made BT Cables more competitive as it allows greater economies of scale and improved efficiencies to keep costs down.
“It has enabled us to manufacture new products at our Manchester facility. The products are predominantly for the rail infrastructure market and are approved for use by Network Rail.”
By keeping its manufacturing in the UK, BT Cables has enhanced customer service levels, reduced lead-times, offers competitive and stable pricing and high quality products backed by technical expertise.
The manufacturer can also offer customers a more environmentally friendly alternative to imports, as its products do not travel as far to the end destination, which significantly reduces a project’s carbon footprint.
Kevin says: “We’ll continue to review and develop our product and service offerings in order to secure a major market share within the UK and make significant progress in Europe. We’re extremely excited about the future and the opportunities our investment plans are creating.”
The investment is a new chapter in cable manufacturing at the Blackley Manchester plant, which is steeped in history and has been in continuous operation for more than 115 years.
BT Cables currently employs 114 people in Manchester and produces cable and accessories for a wide variety of domestic and international market sectors, including telecommunications, utilities, infrastructure, buildings, industrial and rail.
