Canal Digital Kabel Norway selects fiber technology from NetNordic and PacketFront

Canal Digital Kabel has chosen PacketFront’s DRG700 series for their FTTH deployments. This unit will be the end-users access point for IP services such as IPTV, the Video-on-demand service GO, Wimp, Internet and broadband telephony (VoIP). With a speed of up to 1 Gigabit, Canal Digital Kabel’s end-users will have access to ‘fiberspeed’, and can thereby access a larger mix of the growing bandwidth consuming digital services. Using Ethernet P2P, the solution can offer the same bandwidth for download and upload. The number of possible HD, 3D – and next generation 3D channels, will be more or less unlimited.

After a long tender process, Canal Digital Kabel finally decided on the PacketFront DRG 700 series because of its technical capabilities, design and low operational cost. The DRG700 series consists of two modules, a flexible fiber termination unit (FTU) and the DRG which can be «clicked on» to the FTU, resulting in lowered installation and operational costs.

‘’PacketFront and NetNordic are both well-known suppliers of FTTH solutions. Our assessment is that the product is the most advanced, flexible and operationally-friendly of the products we have tested and evaluated’’ says Egil Dischler, Technical Director in Canal Digital Kabel TV AS.

‘’We are very glad to have won this prestigious contract in Norway with our state-of-the-art DRG 700 CPE and we are prepared for mass deployment in 2012. With NetNordic, our preferred and valued partner in Norway, we have an experienced partner for the implementation of this and other FTTH project”, says Tom Andersen, Head of Business Unit CPE, PacketFront.
