Capablue makes music with NOW Smart TV app

NOW Music app created for Samsung 2012/2013 Smart TVs

London, 25 October 2013 – Capablue, the TV Everywhere specialists, has developed a “NOW That’s What I Call Music” service for Samsung Smart TVs. Based on its Connected platform, the Smart TV app features HD music videos and selected music video playlists from the last 30 years of NOW compilations all powered via VEVO.

Capablue has designed and developed an innovative and video-centric app for Samsung TV owners. On the homepage, users will find the latest hits in the NOW Top 20 chart in a browsable playlist, as well as the latest news, interviews, videos and featured video playlists from the biggest artists around. Away from the homepage the service presents 4 main sections, enabling users to search, browse and compile playlists of their video content all curated by NOW.

“Today’s multiscreen explosion means it’s more important than ever to keep consumers engaged with the NOW brand on every connected device,” said Alex McCloy, Head of Digital – NOW Music. “What really shone through for us was Capablue’s extensive knowledge of the platform, and ability to quickly and efficiently create an extremely high quality app that allows viewers to discover and engage with the NOW brand. Our new service places the consumer at the very heart of the TV experience and combines high quality video and audio with the biggest and best curated playlists around”.

The 4 areas of the service are Recommended, Search, Discover and Favourites, which allow users to search for, browse, and favourite video content from a collection of NOW compilations:

Recommended: An editorial collection of NOW playlists, recommending users a choice of video playlists from the NOW album series

Search: Featuring a line-up of 10 of today’s popular artists, users can either load a playlist of tracks from their favourite of the 10 most popular NOW artists or search for specific songs

Discover: This allows the user to create their perfect pop playlist. Users first select the decade of their choice (80s, 90s, 00s and present), followed by music genre (party, dance, rock, etc) to generate a personalised playlist based on the chosen criteria. If the user doesn’t like the playlist generated, they simply reshuffle for a new selection of songs

Favourites: Users can “heart” their most loved tracks, adding them to a “Favourites” playlist, which is remembered even when the app is switched off.

“TV is the perfect match for video content, but it’s important for apps to be simple to use and easy to navigate to ensure that video content is the star attraction,” commented Tom Cape, CEO, Capablue. “NOW is renowned for giving consumers the best of today’s music, and the app is a great way for them to sit-back and enjoy the music they love in the comfort of their living room.”

Other features of the NOW service include:

HD videos: one of the only ways for viewers to watch HD music videos on the big screen

In-Player playlist selection: users can start a track, and easily view the remaining tracks in a playlist and skip immediately to their favourite

Nic Jones, Senior Vice President, International for VEVO said: “VEVO is thrilled to power music videos for one of the UK’s iconic entertainment brands as it launches on Samsung Smart TVs. The living room is one of VEVO’s biggest growth areas – in fact, we recently launched our own app on Samsung Smart TVs – so we are very excited to partner with NOW to bring our music programming to even more viewers.”
