CellMax Technologies Establishes New State of the Art Laboratory for Antenna Research and Testing

[Stockholm, Sweden, 28 November 2011.] CellMax Technologies, a leading provider of advanced and ultra-high efficiency base station antennas, has commenced construction of a new state of the art indoor antenna laboratory in Sweden. The lab will be used to research and test ‘next generation’ base station antennas as a key ingredient in mobile network performance.

CellMax has invested approx. SEK 20 million (€2 million; $2.8 million; £1.8 million) in the new lab. The new indoor antenna measuring range will be one of the best and most advanced of its kind in Europe, and is currently being built at CellMax’s headquarters in Kista, a world-leading cluster in mobile communications just north of Stockholm, Sweden and home to many ICT related companies (including the global headquarters of Ericsson, the world’s largest mobile telecommunications equipment vendor).

“This is a very important investment for CellMax”, said Einar Ahlström, CEO, CellMax Technologies. “The measuring range will significantly enhance our development capacity for new and exciting ultra-high efficiency antenna products. In addition, it will further strengthen our ability to constantly improve and monitor the performance of our antennas as well as perform benchmark testing for our valuable customers.”

The mobile data traffic in the world’s mobile networks grows by 150 per cent per year, driven by the emergence and use of smartphones, apps and videos, and is expected to increase 26-fold between 2010 and 2015. This puts enormous pressure on operators’ network equipment that need to be optimized for this rapid and significant increase in traffic.

There is new focus on base station antennas, previously regarded a network commodity, as an important link in this chain since traditional antennas ‘leak’ up to 55 per cent of the power/energy of the base station, reducing the base station’s transmission capacity significantly. CellMax’s revolutionary antenna technology reduces the power losses within the antenna to close to zero, resulting in higher signal strength and a dramatic increase in geographical area coverage (without any increase in power consumption).

Known as a near-field antenna measuring range, CellMax’s facility is currently being built inside CellMax brand new corporate headquarters in Kista, Stockholm. The new 1.200 sq meter facility, includes apart from new offices, a 550 cubic meter shielded anechoic near-field antenna measuring chamber along with a fully equipped state-of-the-art antenna design laboratory. CellMax will move into the new facility by the end of 1st Quarter, 201

The low reflectivity and high isolation anechoic chamber is equipped with a fully automated spherical near field BTS antenna measurement system which supports multiple testing configurations for maximum flexibility and throughput. The new facility offers very high accuracy and repeatability of antenna parameter measurement throughout its 690MHz to 2,8 GHZ operating range. The new facility support characterization and testing of all types of cellular base station antennas. It is further enabled by sophisticated software which allows for very accurate analysis of the measured results.

With growth of 829 per cent over the last five years, CellMax Technologies was recently awarded the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA 2011 status as one of the 500 fastest-growing technology companies across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). CellMax is one of Sweden’s 20 fastest growing technology companies.

About CellMax:

CellMax Technologies develops and markets ultra-high efficiency base station antennas for mobile networks. Our technology allows mobile operators to reduce power consumption in their radio networks by up to 30%. The unique patented antenna technology from CellMax is specially designed for the higher frequency bands such as GSM 1800/1900, UMTS, LTE and WiMax. Thanks to the elimination of internal losses in the antenna via a revolutionary patented design, the technology provides 96% energy efficiency compared to standard antennas available that provides typically 60-65% energy efficiency.

The superior efficiency of CellMax antennas doubles the radiated power (EIRP) and received signal to the base station, hence provides an increase of geographical coverage by up to 40% versus standard antennas available. Higher EIRP also provides an increase of the net traffic in the network.

In addition to numerous international system vendors, CellMax customers include 2G, 3G and 4G mobile operators in for example India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Philippines, Poland, Sweden, Thailand, UK and USA. To learn more about CellMax, visit http://www.cellmax.se.
