Ceragon All-IP Wireless Backhaul Solutions Help Bring Broadband Services to Rural France

Receives Follow-On Order from Axione, France, as Part of Public Funding Initiative Paramus NJ,

October 26, 2010 – Ceragon Networks (NASDAQ: CRNT), the provider of high-capacity, 4G/LTE-ready wireless backhaul networks, announced that it has received a follow on order from leading French telecoms infrastructure operator, Axione. Ceragon will provide wireless backhaul to three rural regions of France ─ Hautes-Pyrénées, Finistère, and Drôme Ardèche.

The project is part of the French government’s investment in its economy part of which is being used to eliminate the “digital divide” in France. With approximately 20 percent market share, Axione is the leading player in this digital infrastructure initiative. Among other technologies, Axione is deploying a network of WiMAX base stations, bringing digital broadband to the most isolated regions of France.

“Our goal is to provide everybody living in the rural regions of France with digital broadband, even the most remote customers,” said Cyril Puiseux, Head of Networks of Axione. “Microwave technology is a cost-effective way to connect remote areas to the optical fiber backbone, and Ceragon’s microwave solutions have proven to be the most reliable backhaul solutions we have used on the market.”

“Ceragon is known for bringing broadband services to regions that until recently had no access to online services,” said Ira Palti, President and CEO of Ceragon. “Ceragon’s proven wireless backhaul solutions give Axione the capacity and spectral efficiency they need to set up backhaul networks in the most remote areas of France at the lowest overall cost, in any deployment scenario.”

Axione chose Ceragon’s proven FibeAir IP-10 solution for wireless backhaul because the units can serve a wide range of capacity requirements ─ from a single base station to traffic-intensive hub sites. The FibeAir IP-10s will be paired with FibeAir RFU-Cs (Radio Frequency Units). This configuration optimizes the traffic capacity throughput and spectral efficiency of the networks, enabling longer distances and the use of smaller antennas. The combination of advanced Carrier Ethernet and Adaptive Modulation features, embedded into the FibeAir IP-10s, will offer a full end to end QoS management along the network.
