Galaxy on Fire 2 Full HD for Mac is live!

The sci-fi standard on iOS and Android is now also playable on the Mac in Full HD resolution and with gamepad support

Hamburg, Germany, 25 August 2011 – Fishlabs, the international leading developer and publisher of high-quality 3D games for smartphones and tablets, invested over five person-years in the development of Galaxy on Fire 2™, the standard for outer space games on mobile end devices in order to bring the epic trade-shooter to desktops and notebooks. Owners of a Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro can now explore the infinite reaches of Galaxy on Fire 2™, the space saga hailed by millions of fans all over the world. In full HD resolution, with elaborately revised graphics and effects, and optimised controls for mouse, keyboard and gamepad, Galaxy on Fire 2™ Full HD is now available in the Mac App Store for € 15.99.

The outer space shooter, which won the German Computer Game Award 2011 in the category Best Mobile Game for the iPhone™ and iPad™ version, has had its graphics completely overhauled for the Mac. All 3D models were rebuilt from the ground up in four-time polygon and texture resolution. Furthermore, each of the 30 spaceships has its own texture set for diffuse, normal and specular maps in 2048 x 2048 pixel resolution, providing breathtakingly detailed and realistic surfaces, especially with the new OpenGL shaders. Additional post, explosions and other special effects, as well as new scene lighting with multiple light sources und provide the perfect console look.

Along with mouse and keyboard controls, the controls have also been optimised for the gamepad for a real console feeling. Thanks to the expanded control options, ship speed can now also be continuously varied. Keyboard, mouse and gamepad controls are also freely configurable.

‘It was a long road for Galaxy on Fire 2 from the first Java version with a one megabyte file size to the Mac version with over a gigabyte. In just two and a half years, we carried out a gigantic leap in development, that takes three generations in the console field, without having to change the fundamental design of the game significantly. Galaxy on Fire 2 is an impressive example of how quickly the mobile gaming platform is developing and also doesn’t shrink from established platforms. There will be more announcements on this soon,’ says Michael Schade, CEO of FISHLABS Entertainment.

Allowing the transfer of Full HD version saved games between the Mac and iPad™ 2 is planned with the launch of iOS 5 and the release of Galaxy on Fire 2™ Full HD for the iPad™ 2 in September 2011. The transfer of saved games from Galaxy on Fire 2and the add-on Valkyriefor iPhone™, iPod™ touch and iPad™ to the new Full HD versions for Macand iPad™ 2 will be available later when Valkyrie Full HD is released later this year due to reasons of consistency.

In Galaxy on Fire 2™ Full HD, players can explore a complete galaxy with over 20 star systems, 100 different 3D space stations and over 30 extensively equippable spaceships, complete highly varied freelance missions, and play through an exciting, fully-voiced main storyline. The epic story tells of the dramatic battle for survival by the Terrans, Midorians, Nivellians, and the Vossk. Due to a malfunction in the hyperdrive of his spaceship, Keith T. Maxwell, the hero of the first part, is catapulted through time and space. He awakens 35 years later and finds himself in a changed galaxy. The Voids, an aggressive alien species, have invaded known space using wormhole technology and threaten the fragile peace.
