MUNICH – September 22, 2010 – CINTERION, the global leader in cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) communication modules, today announced that its EU3 module is immediately available for mass production. Part of the highly-sophisticated, full-featured M2M Advanced product family, two new versions, EU3-E and EU3-P, offer high-speed data communications for both 2G and 3G networks in European and Asia Pacific markets.

CINTERION’s EU3 UMTS and HSDPA wireless modules provide a smart investment today for the wireless connectivity of the future. By supporting UMTS900 functionality on the 900 MHz band, EU3 offers an ideal communication solution for the challenging long-term focus of industrial applications such as automatic meter reading (AMR), designed to operate in the field for up to fifteen years.

“Our EU3 products were intelligently engineered for the special M2M requirements of evolving wireless networks,” said Norbert Muhrer, CEO and president, CINTERION. “The module allows customers and mobile network operators to design and support wireless M2M solutions for the next decade, even as networks evolve from 2G to 3G technology. EU3 demonstrates CINTERION’s engineering intelligence and commitment to delivering high quality, reliable products with the longevity to maximize enterprise investments in smart M2M technology for many years to come.”

“EU3-E” and “EU3-P” in Detail
EU3-E offers 3G Dual-Band frequencies including UMTS900 and supports applications designed for use on evolving GSM networks. By enabling UMTS/HSDPA functionality with 3.6 Mbps on the 900 MHz band, EU3 offers increased coverage area for high-speed communications even in remote locations. In addition, EU3 provides reliable, high-speed communications for current 2G network applications with the promise of continued high performance as European and Asia Pacific networks move to 3G technology down the road.

With 3G Tri-Band frequencies (UMTS850 in addition to EU3-E), included in one device, EU3-P was designed for implementations in Australia and New Zealand. It is pre-approved by local and global mobile network operators including TELSTRA as well as the smaller regional networks.

Both EU3 “E” and “P” versions provide Digital Audio Interface (DAI) and analog audio as well as simultaneous high-speed serial and USB interfaces for quick and easy data transfer. By combining reliable voice and high-speed data capability with guaranteed longevity, EU3 is also ideal for gateway and wireless router applications in addition to AMR solutions. An extremely robust M2M module, EU3 operates in extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C up to +85°C

With a seamless migration path to UMTS and HSDPA, EU3 follows the tradition of CINTERION’s GSMA award-winning Evolution Platform modules, TC63i, TC65i and MC75i, which offer full scalability from GPRS, GPRS with Java, up to EDGE. EU3 is the first CINTERION module with the option for soldering a component SIM directly on board – supporting demands for M2M grade SIM card integration.
