by david.nunes

HANOI, Vietnam, August 5, 2010 – Cisco and Hong Ngoc Hospital, the health care division of Hong Ngoc Ltd., today announced a collaboration that makes Hong Ngoc Hospital the first private hospital in Vietnam to commit to a technologically advanced health care system. With the implementation of Cisco® Unified IP Phones over the foundation of a Cisco Medical-Grade Network, this collaboration allows a range of complex, mission-critical information to flow within the hospital with anytime, anywhere access while maximizing resource use and increasing business agility.

“Hong Ngoc Hospital provides a comprehensive health care service with more than 300 staff, of which 60 doctors have postgraduate qualifications in 30 different specialties, and nurses with qualifications and experience in Vietnam and overseas. Hong Ngoc Hospital wished to improve the quality of patient care and staff efficiency while reducing capital and operational costs. Cisco solutions implemented at Hong Ngoc Hospital provide us with highly secure access to patient medical records, including lab reports, imaging documents and other resources regardless of staff location. Most importantly, Cisco connected solutions meet the needs of our business today while being scalable for future growth,” said Nguyen Ngoc Vinh, chairman, Hong Ngoc Ltd.

Hong Ngoc Hospital receives about 400 patients for diagnostic care per day and is the first hospital to deploy end-to-end Cisco information technology infrastructure solutions, including routers, switches, security, wireless and Internet Protocol phones. This implementation is expected to increase business agility in operations, administration and hospital management while reducing the total cost of ownership.

“Hong Ngoc Hospital is revolutionizing business and personal interactions by connecting people with the information they need, setting the standard for the next generation in medical care in Vietnam. This is a landmark implementation in the region, and Cisco’s solutions for health care will provide them with the platform to place the hospital within the extended ecosystem of care by facilitating the sharing of timely, accurate information among
the right people at the right time, regardless of the source,” said Lee Chiang Toh, general director, Cisco Vietnam.

This first step toward connected health care in Vietnam comes from the understanding that by using intelligent networking to share vital health information, health care organizations worldwide can improve the safety, cost-effectiveness and accessibility of care. Cisco provides a highly secure communications infrastructure that helps share information – be it voice, moving images or data – across the entire continuum of care.

The foundation for this connectivity at Hong Ngoc Hospital is the Cisco Medical-Grade Network, the digital nervous system of a health care organization. It is designed to be an exceptionally resilient infrastructure that self-monitors, self-defends and self-repairs so that critical applications and data remain highly secure and accessible at all times.
