Civolution’s Synchronization Technology Powers France Télévisions Editions Numériques’s Prime Time Programming ‘C à vous’

Eindhoven, The Netherlands, March 19, 2013 Civolution, the leading provider of technology and solutions for identifying, managing and monetizing media content, today announces that France Télévisions Editions Numériques has selected Civolution’s SyncNow® technology for integration into its advanced companion app during its prime-time program ‘C à vous’.

The ‘C à vous’ application provides unique engagement prior to, during and even after the ‘live’ broadcast. The app, relies on Civolution’s SyncNow to synchronize in real-time with the content, whether viewers are watching live or on catch-up. The innovative and easy-to-use app offers a range of rich and interactive contextual content such as live updates, polls, social network integration, access to exclusive details, recipes, direct product purchases and catch-up services.

‘’Our second screen development strategy is to provide innovative tools that significantly enhance the TV viewer’s experience,’’ explained Philippe Bourquin, Director, Connected Television,France Télévisions. With C à Vous, we wanted to go one step further and provide engagement in perfect sync with the programme for all usage patterns –  live or catch-up – and across any distribution platform. Civolution successfully rose to this  challenge by syncing the 2nd screen expereince for this important live prime-time show.’’

The synchronization between the content and the 2nd screen relies on Civolution’s SyncNow solution which is based on its proven audio watermarking technology. It enables real-time identification and frame-accurate synchronization between broadcast, on-demand or recorded television content and interactive applications on companion devices – tablets, smartphones and  laptops – to present compelling synchronized interactive user experiences. The real-time interactivity automatically handles distribution delays and supports time-shifted viewing.

“The majority of TV viewers now regularly ‘dual screen’ but a large amount are engaging in content away from the ‘first screen’. The challenge is to find compelling ways to bring their attention back to what’s airing by combining the strengths of the first and second screens in unison,” said Jean-Michel Masson, SVP Watermarking Solutions, Civolution. “The C à vous application and our real-time sync technology is an excellent example of how to keep viewers engaged and immersed in a program. By offering viewers the means to take part in the program itself, we drive stickiness and deeper social engagement.’’
