CLOSE-UP ON CO-PRODUCTION AT MIPTV,
FOCUS OF PRODUCERS’ FORUM 2011

Paris, 21 February 2011 – Co-production is in the spotlight at MIPTV 2011, which runs 4-7 April in Cannes. With conferences, interviews, networking sessions, workshops, case studies and World Premiere TV Screenings, the co-production theme will run through numerous events at MIPTV and will be particularly developed during the Producers’ Forum, which takes place 4-5 April.

After its successful launch in 2010, the Producers’ Forum is back at MIPTV this year, bringing together producers from around the world in a major gathering aimed at fostering production partnerships on an international scale. This year the Forum will pay particular attention to fiction co-production, during two days of conferences and networking sessions held around a new lounge area dedicated to Producers’ Forum meetings.

On Monday 4 April, five case studies will unveil the inside story of co-producing high-end drama, with presentations by BBC Worldwide, Zentropa, Windmill Lane Entertainment, Muse Distribution International and Atlantique Productions.

On the same day, two interview sessions will explore global coproduction strategies, notably regarding co-financing in a TV market that is increasingly fragmented. Participants include Screentime, ZDF Enterprises, Starz, CBC, Disney Channel EMEA and Fox Television Studios.

As a MIPTV keynote speaker, the COO of Canal+, Rodolphe Belmer, will outline how co-production is key to ambitious international fiction for the French pay channel, and will present the upcoming series XIII and Borgia, both currently filming.

And as a perfect example of the benefits of international co-production, the Irish-Canadian series Camelot will be showcased at the MIPTV World Premiere TV Screenings, followed by a Q&A with the programmme’s makers and stars, Joseph Fiennes (Elizabeth, Shakespeare in Love) and Eva Green (Kingdom of Heaven, Casino Royale).

On Tuesday 5 April, workshops and networking sessions will spotlight co-production with Asia and Latin America. Participants at MIPTV will have the opportunity to meet some of the major players from these territories, reputed for producing quality programming on well-managed budgets with international financing, world-class talent and crew and universal subject matter.

“Co-production is essential to making quality projects with international ambition, and MIPTV is the ideal place for producers from around the world to meet, develop relationships and reach co-production agreements for television drama” comments Laurine Garaude, Director of the Television Division at Reed MIDEM. “At this year’s Producers’ Forum, MIPTV is making a special effort to bring together leading international producers with their counterparts from Asia and Latin America, to facilitate co-productions with partners in these two vast continents which offer new opportunities.”
