Cobham Wireless to demonstrate NFV system service validation, real mobile network test, and 5G developments at Mobile World Congress

STEVENAGE, UK and Mobile World Congress, barcelona – Stand 6H21 – Cobham Wireless, formerly Aeroflex wireless business unit, will be demonstrating a number of new developments in 4G LTE-A network test, IP network and NFV system service validation, and the development of algorithms for a 5G air interface, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, 2 – 5 March 2015.

The 5G air interface design will need to be very different from those currently used for 3G and 4G – in particular it must be both flexible and programmable, in order to meet the demanding and diverse 5G design targets, and carry deep levels of modulation to maximise throughput. The software-defined design that is being proposed for 5G will allow the fundamental air interface parameters ‑ and even the air interface architecture ‑ to be dynamically changed according to service scenarios. The proposed 5G air interface algorithms developed by Cobham Wireless will be demonstrated on the stand by Razieh Razavi from the 5GIC (5G Innovation Centre) in Surrey, UK.

TeraVM, the Cobham Wireless IP traffic emulation and performance validation solution, will be shown deployed on to a number of NFV systems, where it is used in the validation of the performance of NFV infrastructure and key Virtual Network Function technologies, which will include security vulnerability assessment. In addition to the Cobham Wireless stand, TeraVM will feature in demonstrations on the stands of a number of partner companies, including those of Dell (Stand 3L30 in Hall 3), Openet (Stand 2F36 in Hall 2) and Procera Networks(Stand 5H61 in Hall 5). Mark Lambe, Product Marketing Manager for TeraVM at Cobham Wireless, will also deliver a technical presentation twice daily on the Dell stand, entitled “Pitfalls to deploying Virtual Network Functions”.

Cobham Wireless will demonstrate the ability of the TM500 network tester family to verify the performance of a multi-RAT (LTE and WCDMA) network, using an array of real USIM (User SIM) cards connected to multiple simulated mobile devices, or test UEs (user equipment). The scalability of the technology will be demonstrated up to tens of thousands of UEs, using real data transmission scenarios.

A further demonstration will showcase the Cobham Wireless algorithm for the validation of HetNets using Further Enhanced Inter-Cell Interference Coordination (feICIC).

A high-speed ATE solution based on PXI modular instruments and PXI Maestro test sequencing software to test four mobile handsets or terminals concurrently will be a further featured demonstration.
