Comment: Tech entrepreneur responds to North West cybercrime hub

Lawrence Jones, CEO of Manchester hosting firm UKFast responds to the announcement that the North West is to become one of three ‘cybercrime hubs’ in the UK to help tackle online security threats (full story here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16945859?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter )

Jones said: “It’s a sign that the North West is being recognised as a region with a healthy number of businesses with the skills to contribute to a scheme like this. The North West is already a hub for digital and technological innovation – it makes sense for the police to tap into their wealth of expertise. And with more and more serious crime being committed against individuals and businesses online now, it’s never been more important to focus on tackling the problem and investing money in doing so.

“Of course we need to see how the scheme will work in practice. For it to be a success, it should work closely with businesses in the field that already have substantial knowledge of how cyber crime is affecting commerce but it puts the region on the map as a key location for cybercrime research, hopefully attracting more investment and talent to the field for businesses across the board to benefit from.”
