Communology and Klausner Technologies announce new Patent Licence Agreement on Visual Voicemail

To include all European Mobile Operators and Unique User Activation Licensing Model

Barcelona, February 16, 2011: At the Mobile World Congress (14-17 February, Barcelona), mobile applications specialist Communology (Stand 2B68 in Hall 2) announced a new agreement with the US patent and technology company Klausner Technologies, Inc. The two companies have now extended their European Visual Voicemail (VVM) patent licensing arrangement from 2nd and 3rd tier mobile operators to all European mobile operators and have instituted a new license fee structure based on operator activated VVM users. Klausner Technologies holds the U.S., European and Asian patents for VVM – the new standard in voice mail – and has 33 current international VVM licensees. The popular VVM mobile application provides a graphic user interface to manage voicemails just as easily as SMS or emails. Communology is a leading VVM provider of mobile client software for a broad variety of platforms such as Android, Blackberry, Brew MP, Symbian and Qt, Windows Phone 7, Java ME, and others, as well as gateway and server infrastructure and professional services for technical implementation.

Unique activated user licensing model

Communology will now be able to offer their VVM software with a built in VVM patent license to all European mobile operators with license fees based on activated users only. Alternative VVM patent licensing models are available directly from Klausner Technologies for mobile operators and device manufacturers and include licensing formulas based on VVM software installation and mobile operator subscriber bases.

“Together with our VVM Apps for multiple device platforms and related services, this new agreement further strengthens our position as the one-stop-shop for Visual Voicemail, enabling operators to offer this popular service with a short time to market – and with all IP licences included”, says Thomas Kaehler, CEO of Communology.

Judah Klausner, President of Klausner Technologies, Inc.: “I am pleased to extend our patent licensing arrangement with Communology to include all European mobile operators and believe that operators will benefit greatly from their new ability to implement Visual Voicemail based on an activated user license – and in one easy step with the help of a partner such as Communology.”

Visual Voicemail

VVM provides an easy-to-use, visual user interface for processing voicemail. Messages are downloaded and managed directly on the mobile device and can be answered with just the push of a button. Unlike network-based, conventional voicemail boxes, users can decide themselves which message they wish to listen to first and if and for how long the message is to be stored, just like SMS and email.

LiveMedia

Communology’s VVM apps are part of their successful LiveMedia portfolio. Mobile operators can use white label applications to offer ready-to-use products that are adapted to their own specific requirements and customer-specific look and feel under their own brand name. LiveMedia solutions are also available for Instant Messaging, Mobile TV, Unified Communications, Social Networking, Infotainment and Mobile Marketing.

At the Mobile World Congress, Communology also will present its MTE (Mobile Test Edition) software and service offerings for app quality management for HTML5, Android, WAC, and Windows Phone 7.
