Comviva Draws Top Honors at the Aegis Graham Bell Awards 2011

Comviva Awarded for Innovation in Mobile Money and Mobile Gaming

New Delhi – July 25, 2011: Comviva, the global leader in providing mobile solutions beyond VAS announced that it has won two awards at the coveted Aegis Graham Bell Awards ceremony on July 23rd in Mumbai. Comviva’s mobiquityTM mobile financial solution won in the Innovation in Mobile Money category and its Online Gaming Solution won for Innovation in Mobile Gaming. Sachin Pilot, Union Minister of State for Communications and IT, presented the awards, which honour outstanding contributions of the entrepreneurs and companies in India in the fields of Telecom, Internet, Media and Edutainment.

Comviva’s mobiquityTM mobile financial solution enables operators to deliver financial services to people who may or may not have access to conventional banking services. mobiquity™ enables extension of a range of convenient cashless and cardless pay-as-you-go formal financial services to banked and unbanked consumers. Deployed by banks and mobile operators alike, mobiquity™ has enabled significant change in how low income groups use the mobile to make transactions, including transfers and payments.

Comviva’s Online Gaming Solution (OGS) deploys the principles of cloud computing to extend “gaming as a service” to mobile users. OGS enables mobile service providers to target casual gamers with feature phones, who are averse to adopting the currently prevalent download gaming model – largely for reasons of affordability, complexity or incompatibility. With both the games and the game logic resident on a centralized gaming server in the cloud, rather than on the mobile device, customers with low-capacity phones can trial and consume a wide range of games.

Commenting on the occasion Manoranjan Mohapatra, CEO, Comviva said, “The Aegis Graham Bell Awards foster new thinking and champion innovation in this dynamic and highly competitive space, where innovation, excellence and agility form the core engine for future growth and progress. It is an honour and a delight to receive this coveted award for Comviva’s Online Gaming Solution and mobiquity™ mobile financial services platform.”

Instituted by the Aegis School of Business and Telecommunication, Mumbai, the Graham Bell Awards recognize innovation and outstanding contributions in telecom. The selection process of the Aegis Graham Bell Awards 2011 winners was based on various parameters such as innovativeness, market potential, social potential, sustainability and interoperability through a detailed methodology, reliable process validation and research conducted by Price Waterhouse Coopers. The jury comprised many prominent names from India’s leading IT and Telecom industry, including Chandan Sonowal, director, Aegis (Bangalore); Rajan Mathews, director general (COAI); Narayanan Madhavan, associate editor, Hindustan Times; Amol Masurkar, principal consultant, PwC; Satyen Gupta, member of Committee for PM Address Allocation Policy, Govt of India; Subho Ray, president, IAMAI and Dr Manish Gupta, head (Innovation, IBM).
