Conexus Mobile Alliance join hands to explore launching
LTE data roaming service
27 June 2012
Conexus Mobile Alliance (“the Alliance”), one of Asia’s largest alliances of mobile operators
with a combined customer base of around 330 million mobile subscribers, today announced
that member operators are joining hands to explore launching LTE data roaming service.
“The momentum of LTE is set to accelerate globally as more operators are planning to
introduce LTE services this year or next and as more LTE smartphones and tablet devices
become widely available soon. Naturally, mobile customers will want to enjoy data intensive
applications such as video streaming and video conferencing not only on their domestic LTE
network but also when they travel abroad,” said Mr Alejandro Caeg, Chairman of the
Alliance’s Board. “With this latest collaboration among the member operators, our customers
will soon enjoy the convenience of LTE data roaming experience. We believe this
collaborative effort will lead the industry in driving the use of LTE data while roaming.”
The Alliance members will provide LTE data roaming service when their LTE network and
roaming solutions are in place. Customers of these member operators will be able to
seamlessly roam and enjoy a consistent 4G mobile experience when they connect to a
member LTE network overseas.
NTT DOCOMO, INC. (Japan) is one of the first mobile operators in the world to launch LTE
services, in December 2010, and is one of the largest LTE operators globally. Two operators
have introduced LTE services this year; KT (South Korea) in January and Hutchison
Telecommunications (Hong Kong) Limited in May. StarHub (Singapore) is rolling out an LTE
network and will offer LTE services in the fourth quarter of the year.
Participating member operators will jointly introduce LTE roaming service to serve the
existing pool of more than four million LTE customers and announce their LTE data roaming
