Broadcast Asia 2012

19-22 June 2012, Suntec, Singapore

BroadcastAsia2012 grew from strength to strength and established its firm position as the leading regional event dedicated to digital multimedia and entertainment technology, attracting 11,129 visitors from the broadcasting, film and pro-audio industries all over the world. Held from 19 – 22 June 2012, attendees sourced for the latest technology, such as OTT, DVB-T2, Digital Media Asset Management and Digital Radio from a record-breaking 739 exhibitors.

15,126 trade attendees came from over 80 countries and regions to forge new business partnerships and interact with the latest technologies at BroadcastAsia2012. The exhibition saw the debut of the OTT Feature Zone, featuring technology demonstrations of OTT and cloud broadcasting solutions by Axon, EVS, XOR Media, Switch Media and Magna and how they are used in broadcasting sports or variety content. The return of Cinematography / Film / Production Zone also proved popular with Panasonic, Blackmagic Design and The Media Village drawing in crowds, while new exhibitors such as 2-Altitude and ScubaCam piqued interest with their unconventional ways of aerial or underwater filming. Visitors from the broadcasting and audio industries were also keen to check out offerings by well-established exhibitors such as Canon, Grass Valley, Harmonic, Sony, Sennheiser and more.

Faster satellite broadband speeds hit UK consumer market

Pan European satellite broadband provider, ToowayDirect, part of Satellite Solutions Worldwide, Europe’s premier supplier of Satellite Broadband Communications, today announces a major upgrade and extension of its satellite broadband services. Its will now be able to deliver consumer speeds of 18 Mbps download, 6 Mbps upload, up from 10 Mbps and 4 Mbps respectively.

Britain Leads Europe in Internet on Trains

The UK is leading Europe in the race to get broadband wireless services onto trains, according to a new report from the consulting firm BWCS. The number of WiFi-equipped train carriages in Britain has reached 2,000 – far more than closest rivals Germany (911) and Italy (995) and dwarfing the French figure of 416.

The latest data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech shows that for the first time Android has taken at least half of smartphone sales across Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, US and Australia.* Android’s share now ranges from 49.6% in Italy to a massive 84.1% in Spain.

Kaspersky Lab and Seculert Announce ‘Madi’, a Newly Discovered Cyber-Espionage Campaign in the Middle East

Kaspersky Lab researchers have today announced the results of a joint-investigation with Seculert, an Advanced Threat Detection company, regarding “Madi,” an active cyber-espionage campaign targeting victims in the Middle East. Originally discovered by Seculert, Madi is a computer network infiltration campaign that involves a malicious Trojan which is delivered via social engineering schemes to carefully selected targets.

VX Company uses CloudBees PaaS to give back to Aids victims in Africa

CloudBees, Inc., the Java Platform as a Service (PaaS) innovation leader, today announced that VX Company, a Netherlands-based provider of IT services to customers around the globe, has selected the CloudBees platform to re-develop their Soweto application into a cloud-based SaaS. The Soweto application was developed by VX Company as a way to give back to the AIDS-ravaged African countries. It is used by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Africa to monitor AIDS patients and caregivers, as well as maintain records of home visits. The software is used by more than 85 different NGOs, all affiliated with Soweto Care System.

NCC Group calls for better e-tail performance

The sluggish web performance of the UK’s busiest e-tailers showed no signs of improvement in the second quarter of 2012, according to NCC Group’s Quarterly Online Retail Report.

Bob Dowson, director at NCC Group, commented: “With the recent high-profile fall in sales from several major high street players, e-tailers should be seizing the opportunity to claim the lost custom – but they’re not taking advantage.”

A million people have signed a German student’s Change.org petition calling on YouTube to allow users to record content from the site for private use.
