That, at least, was the vision peddled by technology companies which unveiled 20,000 products over five frenzied days of networking and promotion at the Consumer Electronics Show, which wrapped on Friday. Some 150,000 industry professionals sifted through gadgets sublime and ridiculous, pointless and ingenious, seeking the next big innovation which will change the way we work, live and play. Press Releases Monday, 07 January 2013 Accedo launches new TV Everywhere Solution to enable the next generation of Pay TV Accedo, the global market leader in TV application solutions today announced the launch of its TV Everywhere (TVE) Solution. Accedo’s TVE Solution enables Pay TV Operators and Media Companies to launch new multi screen services across a range of connected devices more quickly than ever before. SK Telecom increases optical network capacity to 100G SK Telecom, the largest mobile operator in Korea, has started to introduce 100G (gigabits per second) technology into its existing 40G network, to significantly increase its transmission capacity. To do this, the operator has selected Nokia Siemens Networks’ DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing)* 100G technology and related services. The capacity expansion enables SK Telecom to simultaneously transmit up to 80 wavelengths of light, each carrying data at 100G on a single optical fiber, giving a total capacity of up to 8 Tbps (terabits per second) per fiber. Tuesday, 08 January 2013 Cisco Builds All-Digital Wireless-Based Home Security and Automation Control Panel for AT&T Cisco today announced the launch of a UL-certified, all-digital, wireless-based home security and automation service with AT&T Digital Life. Cisco will provide the Digital Life control panel and back-office provisioning and applications life-cycle management system, which allows customers to monitor, protect and manage their homes using a smartphone, tablet or PC. AT&T plans to launch the Digital Life service in eight U.S. markets in March, with up to 50 additional market rollouts planned in 2013. While broadband provider agnostic, the service uses AT&T’s nationwide wireless network. The G-Cloud was launched in February 2012 and aims to encourage the public sector to embrace new technologies purchased from a wider range of suppliers within the marketplace. To be accepted onto the G-Cloud, Mastek was required to submit various documentation, including a capability response, technical details for each of its services and insight into the benefits that these different solutions can deliver. NEC signs mobile backhaul contract with Tele2 for expansion and upgrade across Europe and Russia NEC Corporation announced that NEC Europe Ltd. (NEC), a wholly owned subsidiary, has signed a multi-million, multi-year global framework contract giving Tele2 Sverige AB the possibility to expand and upgrade Tele2s mobile access network in 10 countries across Europe. Thursday, 10 January 2013 5-Year Forecast of $18 Billion for FTTH Builds in North America Annual direct investment in fiber to the home (FTTH) networks will reach $4.7 billion by 2017 and total investment in FTTH over the next five years will be $18 billion, according to a market analysis unveiled today. Monday, 14 January 2013 The Global Mobile Suppliers Association confirms that 145 operators have launched commercial services in 66 countries. 97 networks were commercially launched during 2012. According to the report, LTE-enabled mobile broadband services are available in 37 more countries than 12 months ago. Go Google takes the pain out of Cloud migration First-of-its-kind migration service makes moving to the Cloud much easier A new service designed to help businesses migrate critical services to the Cloud has been launched by Cloud Technology Solutions (CTS). The service Go Google, is the first-of-its-kind specifically designed as a one-stop-shop for businesses looking to easily and cost-effectively migrate to the Cloud. Sunday, 27 January 2013 GSA confirms rising global momentum of mobile HD voice, 61 networks launched January 27, 2013: An updated report from the GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association) published this month confirms 61 mobile networks in countries have launched HD voice services in 45 countries. The number of mobile networks supporting HD voice is 55% higher than a year ago.
